Just curious why is it that scanners especially the digital ones never seem to loose there value. like the sds100 it's like 6 years old and still the same price , I bought a samsung s22 ultra when it came out 2 years ago for around $1200 and it's about half the price now. i just don't understand is it the supply and demand or is it the license you have to pay for. if it is then why are these 10 year old scanners still calling hundreds of dollars? Thanks

The SDS series is the newest scanner and basically the only portable that has the simulcast/lsm issue solved. My system is extra heavy simulcast and it has no issues with it. Name another scanner that I can drive around with no issues.
Also, comparing cell phones that are released every year to a scanner that you can only do so much with.

Because they do the same job as when they were new.

Unlike phones, which are always getting better features, a scanner that does X today, will do X just as well in a years time.

Where you do get some bargains is people selling a scanner, not understanding what it is (normally from family, when someone passes away) or somebody leaving the hobby because they can nolonger scan X user.

@Reconrider answered you about the SDS, it is still the most advanced scanner and there is no competition or upgraded version. As for the older scanners, in my opinion, supply and demand has a lot to do with it. It is harder and harder to find new Whistler scanners and people don't want to part with their Uniden scanners.

If or when uniden releases the successor to the SDS do you think it would be able to do more than the sds or has the sds pretty much covered everything that you could want or need in a scanner?

Technology is always changing, so it depends on what is new, popular and what people want in the future. Any new features will be included only if Uniden feels there is a profit in it.

Yea true... honestly i don't see how the sds100 could be improved or updated it already handles about everything out there . but like u said the technology would have to change before they could make another scanner i think

Here is something new that scanners can not decode yet, if these systems become more popular among many users it could be included in future upgrades. Another new discovery is radio identification OTA aliases on Motorola P25 systems, that only DSD+ FL will decode, scanners can't do it yet. As I said, technology is always changing.

It sounds like you need a notch filter.
Yeah i know about them i contaacted a guy who makes them they were like 85 dollars a piece and he said i couldn't get one that would block just on freqs that it would block out the ones next to that freqs as well and i don't want that cause i listen to those.

Maybe if you explain your issue, we can try and find a solution. Why do you need to block one frequency?

Probably not a whole lot of user demand for the following modes it doesn't handle, not sure how feasible hw wise it would be to add them but...YSF, D-Star, Tetra (the former 2 being amateur radio digital modes)

With technology changing all the time i hope so soon. It would be great to see harris moto and dmr equipment decoding. More support for hyrera and tait or whatever the other T3 system is out here.

Being the sds is now older and no newer scanner I could almost guess they're working something up or adding more festive for the sds with firmware or send in hardware mods. Hopefully @JoeBearcat can speak more on that for us
