The same can be said of Uniden and the x36 line of scanners...
Very true....BUT let's hope Uniden makes use of that. So far though, no word or hints of it happening.

That's misleading, because Uniden charges for future mode updates, Whistler has stated (and so far has abided by that with NXDN) that they will not charge extra.
One note....Whistler doesn't currently offer ProVoice, only Uniden does.
Uniden pays royalties to Motorola for use of their DMR patents.

And this begs the question that Whistler does NOT pay anything for use of DMR technology????
The free DMR & NXDN was why I sold my 436 & bought a TRX-1.
They pay. The price is built into the sticker price of their scanners.
Some men will choose bologna over roast beef if it's "free."
No one works for free. If it's an 'update' to firmware to fix or improve an original feature that's different. But if it's an 'upgrade', you should expect to pay something.
Correct. Whistler does not."Uniden pays royalties to Motorola for use of their DMR patents."
And Whistler does not?
I am waiting for the 636 with DUC baseband for digital trunking.
