To think I actually wasted keystrokes Googling thisIt's just joking way to refer to Baofengs, Pofungs, and similar radios because of people feeling they're controversial or common characteristics of the radios.

I also want dPMR in my SDS200.
But it probably won't be JB.
It is quite a shame that the E version of SDS scanners have some news and the US version nothing !!
Maybe kick JB in the ass and he'll wake up and start doing something !
This is fine with me (not that Uniden or anyone else cares), but my guess is Uniden has to feel there enough potential interest to make a profit by enabling this as an optional feature. I am sure there is work to be done to the firmware, and as a former programmer I can tell you all we don’t work for cheap 😜Let's have a vote. Who is in favor of replacing the Provoice with Tetra
When the SDS series came out, they were touted as scanners that "evolve" and are ready for new additions, FW updates, etc.
Nothing in over 2 years, when we were getting them every few months before Mr. Paul died.
It is concerning. And at this point, disappointing.
(Edit; if the non-US versions can pay to get TETRA, why can't the US versions? I mean, the technology is apparently there. DL the FW and buy the key for it. How much different are the US ones and the Non US ones?)

It has to do with demand and the cost of recouping license fees and R&D. I would estimate we are currently around the couple grand mark for a TETRA upgrade. Perhaps when TETRA becomes more popular, and in more demand, it will be worth pursuing because I don't think many people are gonna pay a couple grand for TETRA. There was a poll recently and something like 60 people wanted it. Even if you extrapolate it, that is not many people. Even Open Sky never hit the mark to add, and that was when there were several systems deployed including a couple statewide systems.
And this assumes the hardware is there to support it. Obviously the receiver is not an issue, but does the VOCODER support it?
And if one of the other Uniden divisions pays for the TETRA R&D that will make it less expensive for North America. Usually it is all done on NA's dime and used elsewhere.
On the other hand, if you really want it buy an SDS200E.
And FWIW, the last update was 9 months before Paul passed, and there are at least a couple updates that are coming soon for the SDS series. No, I don't have an exact release date, but they are in the works. In 2021 there were close to a dozen scanners that received new firmware.
I didn't know you could purchase a European model in the USA?
I'm aware Provoice has technically been EOL'ed but why the need to remove it to gain a new mode? I'm sure monitorors of these systems would disagree...I agree remove the provoice to gain tetra
I think many folks missed the part that if there was not enough room in firmware storage for a new mode, what could be removed to make space for Tetra? It seems many took that as truth, rather than speculation.I'm aware Provoice has technically been EOL'ed but why the need to remove it to gain a new mode? What's the point though, other than to give users ammo against Uniden? lolHow about adding a setting in "See Scanner Information" letting us know how much firmware storage is available? Pretty sure "% memory used" is only the memory card? Would be nice to know with all 3 paid upgrades installed on my SDS100 if I have room for any more![]()
