Uniden America is like every other company, they exist to make a profit. While certainly to do that, they have to first, have a product that people want or need, and second, have to have the product have more features, abilities, etc. than a competitor's product... price included.

I have seen maybe 10 or 15 folks here clamoring for TETRA.

How many folks are on these forums vs those 10 or 15?

As Joe Bearcat said in the tech forum, right now, the licensing, R&D, etc would make a TETRA upgrade cost in the TWO THOUSAND dollar range. There's simply not enough of a market.... yet.

So, how many of you who want TETRA are willing to pay about $2,000 for it? And that is on top of the $750 for the radio itself.

If you replace DMR or NXDN instead of TETRA, this could be a post from the past prior to those digital modes being added. I also seem to recall just prior to MotoTRBO/DMR being added, some were saying "no way this is needed or going to happen". If you happen to be in an area where TETRA is being used, you might think otherwise. So far in Chicago, only 1 system exists at O'Hare Airport. Since I'm not close enough, I would apply an upgrade to my SDS100 only at this time and go there and update the talk groups in the database. So yes, the need is "starting" to be there, but not yet.

I'd like to see bug fixes take priority at this time, some of the nuisance ones corrected would be nice. But, if Sentinel was updated to allow TETRA systems to be added, firmware added to allow TETRA to be added, and a paid upgrade made available, the good news is you don't have to apply them if you don't want them. For me, Provoice has no use, but for those that need or want it, it's available and I'm sure they're happy.

Let's keep it on the radar, and if the technology is there to add it, I hope Uniden does so. I'm not sure why some are getting their panties in a bunch over this, when no one is forcing you to do anything. Relax everyone.

In 2020, there was a poll, 64 participants voted. 64•75 =4800$. There are still a lot of people. Those who are not registered here, but are willing to pay for TETRA.
Let's do a vote for those who are not registered. There will be another 500 people.

You idea is like trying to sell outdoor swimming pools to people in Alaska
My idea is to create a repeat vote with a topic. "Who is willing to pay for TETRA in Uniden. And for Joe to see this vote. And passed the list of this vote to the Uniden leadership."

There were also reports. From beta testers in 2019. Tetra has been successfully tested on the HP and SDS series. Then this information was deleted.

A poll here isn’t going to move the needle, but go ahead and create one. Nothing is stopping you.

Let's have a vote. Who is in favor of replacing the Provoice with Tetra
How would that work with the folks that paid for the PV upgrade? Would they still be able to listen to PV or will there be two sets of firmware? And then there's the cost of removing PV.
The problems with voting is the ones that are interested in Tetra are going to vote more which will skew the results. I'd rather see Uniden Engineering focused in other areas.

So how different is the SDS series in the USA, v/s the SDS series in non-USA?

I mean, do they have different innards? Are the hardware components different in the E series, and the USA series?

If they are the same scanner, but with different hardware, that's one thing, but I really doubt that is the case. I would be willing to bet whatever was done to the "E" model series to receive TETRA, could be done to the "USA" model series.

And "a couple grand"? Is that what the "E" users are paying for TETRA? I seriously doubt it.

I honestly would like to know why we in the USA can't get the same things the "E" users are getting, on the same scanners. (Minus the "Cellphone" band per FCC)

And yes, 9 months before Paul died. He was very sick, and getting progressively worse. I am sure his mind was on other things during the year leading up to his death. I see that as a tragic loss to Uniden, and us, the end consumer, as apparently, his shoes are a little too big to fill.

The E-model decodes TETRA? Can you provide a link to where that was announced?

The SDS100E/200E models are all based on the US model and share the same hardware but have different bandplans and different AC adaptor. There is no Tetra option for the E models. E Models are distributed in Europe by Avera in The Netherlands .
