Wal-Mart doesn't sell scanners in their stores, only online.

Jon check your data. You can still pick up the Uniden BC350 and its variants in Wal Mart stores and that basic Whistler.. As far as I know that is the ONLY ones they carry in store in stock. Others are purchasable via online.

(For the NY and LI areas - this is a good supplement for RR) Also runs Scanner School on Youtube, and FB... And has live feeds on ProScan and BCFY

(For New England, and again, a good supplement for RR) Also has good feeds on BCFY (moved them to us from his own sites.)

And proves that for local data, you can do a pretty good job with not too hard an effort... BUT, to run a DB that is INTERNATIONAL in reach, NOT JUST the USA... And a Forum attached, and a dedicated Wiki.... Takes some serious processing power, serious dedication, serious man hours, and serious income. And then then you add in the BCFY feeds which a TON of separate feed sites have merged into over the years....

Yeah, I'm sure it's much more labor-intensive, and equipment too, to maintain an international site like this one. Nothing like it that I know of out there, and likely won't be, either...Mike

Plenty of startups use AWS and don't think this would be as compute intensive...just a db used by a niche market. A lot of the "work" has been done for free by people submitting.

So when RR goes down/under then the scanner manufacturers get screwed with a single source of failure.
