Instead of deleting the question, why not just answer it?

What is the purpose of this and why is it included in every post of certain people?

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 3GS: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8G4 Safari/6533.18.5)

What function does it serve? How is it helpful in any way?

Your post was deleted because you continued to post off topic for the thread after it was explanined to you what it was. Had you not hijacked that thread and posted here appropriately like you have, you would have been answered again and your post would not have been deleted.

So, again, that is inserted into every post automatically by the vBulletin software when someone posts from the mobile version of the forums. It doesn't really serve a purpose, it's just there.

Not enough information to answer this. What was deleted?

It serves to identify that the poster is posting from an iPhone. Several mobile devices do this to advertise their product.

It does nothing for the forum, but serves to help dollars go into Steve Jobs' pockets.

Because he has more important things to deal with, rightly so. That's why he lets the moderators handle these sort of issues.

Then why hasn't it been removed?

Because it was placed there by blantonl when he installed the software for the mobile version of the forums. This is his playground and he just lets us play with his toys :D

It is placed there anytime somebody posts from The RadioReference.com Forums - Powered by vBulletin by the forum software. It is not done by the user or the device. Nobody is spamming the forums (Well, not via the useragents at least... we get plenty of spam). The only input the user has is a device nickname. It is doing nothing but advertising that our site has mobile browser friendly software installed.

Lindsay does not accept private messages... Hasn't for years, As has been said... He has more important things to deal with.

Wow. Some people get so upset over the smallest things. I don't see what the big deal is. If it were me I'd just ignore wireless posters if it bothered me that much. Draf
