Why reband the ChasCity analog system when they went digital a month later?

1 - Who says they aren't going to use the analog system anymore ?

2 - They were in a contractual agreement with Nextel. The decision to go digital may not have been made before the agreement was signed.

3 - No matter what they were going to do, the agreement was necessary to get the rebanded frequencies. Agreement or no agreement, they would have had to give back the NPSPAC frequencies to the F.C.C. No frequencies ... no system.

4 - Without an agreement, Nextel would not have replaced any unrebandable radios, or upgraded radios at a reduced cost.

Who says they have to give back the NPSPAC frequencies to the FCC? I would suggest that you go
back and do some homework. I think what you will find is that those frequencies also get rebanded.

the original NPSPAC freqs were required by law to be abandoned, so they had to reband them or decommission them. so yes, it was either reband or "give" them back. it does not matter what the future intentions were for the system, Nextel had certain obligations under the rebanding order and they had to pay for all costs of rebanding any affected licensees. i've personally been involved with several rebanding projects in both the original move back in the 90's and the current one. if the system was on the air and operational, they had to pay to reband it unelss the owner decided to just shut down and cancel the license.

they can use the rebanded freqs with the digital system, they may have just not put them in service yet. or they may decide to make them a conventional system for backup/special event use.
