Why the hate for POTA?

I've seen this feeling on a few YouTube videos and I definitely know to take whatever I see with a grain of salt. But I do wonder why some people don't like that. I'm a relatively new listener to SW, having listened as a kid in the early 70's and buying a Xhdata D-219 and reigniting my interest. I bought one of their D-109WB to make it easier to listen and keep hearing how much more people can hear when they go outside to get away from the rfi we all live with indoors. Going outside to hear more sounds kind of cool to me (except for during the winter here in northern Illinois) and the few times I've tried I was able to hear more than I could at home. So why is that people seem to be discouraging people who want to go out and do even more than that by both transmitting and receiving?

I think it boils down to POTA being fairly new and POTA attracting newer hams who haven't "paid their dues" on HF. It's a "get off my lawn" response especially when a POTA op starts making contacts on a "well-established" net or ragchew frequency.

The same people who hate contests hate POTA, since POTA generally produces "mini contests," at least on HF. As @AK9R also mentioned, they also tend to be newer, younger hams. Most of the 70 and 80 year old crotchety old hams aren't going to be hauling their equipment up a mountain or to a park, so they naturally hate on the younger crowd. You're also occupying precious bandwidth that they can be using to talk about their bowels and latest medical procedures.
