Why was the embedded feed function removed without notice?

This is the one I am currently using.
This is based on the WebRTC MediaStream object so a lot of overhead. Latency is about 15 seconds. It could probably be reduced by hosting the JavaScript locally and modifying it.

I use this Icecast Metadata Player Latency about 1 second

Yeah, we can certainly run our own streaming servers, but that means we'll have no reason to share our stream with broadcastify at all anymore.

It's been a mutually beneficial relationship for at least the last decade, but I guess nothing lasts forever. 🤷

Nice I will give it a look! I was just looking for something good yet fast for me to get back online as people in my town were calling me and emailing me asking what happened to the feed.

Hey folks,

I know you're not going to want to hear this... but we've retired the embedded feed player: the function that let a Broadcastify feed be embedded in a third-party web page. If you had one on your site, it now displays a deprecation notice instead of playing audio.

This is permanent. There are too many security issues involved now with embedding Broadcastify feeds in third-party websites, and it isn't something we're able to keep supporting. I realize a lot of people have been doing this for a long time. What's been happening is that scrapers were using the embed functionality to reverse-engineer our products and services, and that introduced a number of highly critical security issues on our end. That's what forced the change.

Please do not attempt workarounds

To be direct about this: we do not want feed providers working around the retirement to keep embedding feeds on their own sites. If you are pulling from our master servers, you are exposing our mounts to scrapers and causing major security issues. If you are setting up your own Icecast server to relay from us, you will be blocked. We do not want you doing this.

The recommended approach

If you want a player on your own website, the best way to do it is to run your own Icecast server and have your software send a second stream to it, alongside the stream you send to us. You then serve that copy from your own server, on your own page, and it has nothing to do with our infrastructure at all. Most broadcast software can send to more than one destination, and standing up an Icecast server isn't especially difficult. This is the approach we recommend.

The difference matters: broadcasting your own audio to your own server is fine, and is what we want you doing. Pulling or relaying it from us is not, and that will cause us problems

Listening itself is unaffected. Every feed is still available on Broadcastify and the mobile apps, and site operators are welcome to link to a feed page or to their county's page instead:

Code:
Feed page: https://www.broadcastify.com/listen/feed/<feedId>
County page: https://www.broadcastify.com/listen/ctid/<ctid>

We understand this is frustrating, and we're sorry for the disruption ... but it isn't something we're going to proceed with going forward. There is no replacement embed method.

Thanks for your understanding.
In all honesty and all due respect, after I found out Broadcastify is making money selling my feed to news providers and other places, and now... you will not let me display it on my own website as a feature for giving you the feed for free. Not seeing a real reason to allow Broadcastify to even use my feed anymore and profit off of me. You guys are basically killing your own business model. Good Luck with that.

I would suggest figuring something out, or I can predict a lot of feed providers that do this for FREE and lose money every month providing you a service with NOTHING in return other than the kindness of helping my community will start abandoning ship.

Again... respectfully. I am starting to think it is finally time to go DARK.

What about the bandwidth needed for tens of thousands of simultaneous listeners, along with months of automatic archiving, and premium access to the Calls platform?
I can see what you're trying to point out .. but automatic archiving- easy, my software does this already. No idea what access to the Calls Platform is... never heard of it. Regardless, bandwidth is super cheap now, and I have already started looking into doing it myself and maybe for others. They are not the only company that does this, and they have no lock on the market.

When I started hearing my audio feed come up on Google News .. I thought, hey, I'm getting screwed here and everyone else is too. So I contacted Broadcastify, and they told me they have paid deals to supply the feeds to other companies but not share that revenue generation with the person actually doing the service. Seems a little backhanded.

But this is something you agreed to when you started the feed (I'm sure you fully read the terms and conditions) and you are sharing in the revenue generation through a free premium account ($30/yr). While it may not seem like much it was something you agreed to upon starting the feed.

Not knowing what benefits you get ment you agreed to terms you never read, that makes this feeling you have your fault.
You should be thankful for the safe place you have here at RR. Some people here like to wine and cry but enjoy the freedom to have everything about them hide. So as said before if you have what you need elsewhere DO NOT LET THE DOOR HIT YOU WHERE THE GOOD LORD SPLIT YOU.

Oh, for sure, not arguing with that at all. I am just thinking it is time to monetize my stream something I can NOT do with Broadcastify but can if I do it myself. At the same time, terms of service change over time, and is it possible what I agreed to is diffrent then before. Sure, and maybe it's time to look at my options. Including keeping stuff the same. I don't know.

If everyone else is happy with working for free for Broadcastify, then I'm happy for you and enjoy. I don't want it to seem like I dislike Broadcastify either; they are providing a valuable service, and overall I think it's great. BUT.... they could put more effort into accommodating the feed providers; that's all I'm saying.

Been nice having you, goodbye
I am not sure why all the hate from you and everyone else. If I am the only one who feels betrayed by Broadcastify, then that's fine. If their service meets your needs, then that's amazing, and I am happy for you all. I am just stating my feelings, and some people are getting angry. It's a little odd for a bunch of people all doing the same thing and trying to help their communities out to be so sarcastic and negative.

Hey, everyone, have a great day!

You get free membership with all that is list above.
On top of the only 2 post you have made is to wine and cry as you have never reached out to help others here except yourself you are free to leave anytime you want.
You know what .. You made a good point .. So I figured out a workaround for you all. This is me giving back ..

<iframe
src="Athol Police Department — Broadcastify"
width="325"
height="245"
frameborder="0"
scrolling="no"
style="border:0; overflow:hidden;">
</iframe>

NOTE: .. It won't let me put the website link... it keeps changing it... just open the SRC link in a new window, copy the address, and change the Feed ID to yours ..

That's me giving back.. as you stated I have not done, after discovering this forum last week.

You can see it in action at www.atholscanner.com

There is no hate in my messages, nor in any other messages I've seen above, we are simply saying if you feel it is time for you to go then go, you don't need to make any grand announcement in a post like it would change anything. Your posts about it being time to go sounds like a plea for Lindsey or others to beg you to stay or change the system to please your needs. All we are saying is if RR isn't for you no one is making you stay, feed providers are free to discontinue feeds at anytime for any reason.
