@kayn1n32008 is yours a wagon or sedan? You can work around a sedan's sunroof...you can't work around the Wagon's (it's a full length model similar to Ford/Lincoln's pano's).

You get pretty good at thing after awhile.
I do not understand. The OP was concerned about some scratches and paint fading. To me this seems much less damaging than drilling a hole in the roof of the car. Please explain why a hole is better than a paint damage that is very easy to repair.
Since we're on the topic, if you do drill at least do it in the right place.
Many years ago a school district we did work for decided to save money and do their on installs on the maintenance pickups (about 40). We sold the new VHF Phoenix-SX radios and antennas and they came back saying none of the radios worked, we told them to bring one in. They had installed the 1/4 wave whip on the B-pillar (right behind the drivers door), bent the whip at 90 degrees and had about 1 inch of it above the roof line. When asked why they did that they said they couldn't fish the coax through the roof (this was probably around 1987 or so on Chevy work trucks...easy fishing).
if you are saavy, you scan score a greenlee knockout punch at a pawn shop for WAAAAY less than new, and they give pristine results.Without exception, every new ham who asked me about mag mounts on their cars (to allegedly preserve resale value), and I advised to drill an nmo mount, ended up wrecking their paint.
New car smell and the smell of burnt paint and clear coat as the drill goes through the roof... can't beat it.

Yes but you need access to both sides of the roof and would have to drop the headliner in many cases to use it. That's something to avoid. I have a nice set of Greenlee punches including the hydraulic press and would not consider using them on a car roof.
Ah, I habitually drop as much of the headliner as I have to or use the infamous "Antenna Access Panel". You are right tho, without doing that it would be very very difficult.

I find this thread kind of funny. Gee there is not going to be any damage from drilling a hole in your roof NOT. There are ways to mitigate the coax rubbing on the vehicle, but it depends on each exact installation.
I use mag mounts for several reasons:
1) I have high profile vehicles, and I can remove them when going into low clearance places
2) I can have 0,1,2 mag mounts on top with little ease
3) I've encountered a "low branch" that would have really caused damage if it couldn't just "tip over" the mag mount
