Why won't my Pro-96 turn on when using the AC power adapter?

Any reason why? I have to disconnect the adapter from the Pro-96 to power up.

Change the polarity of the tip.

You adapter might not be working. Check it with a voltage meter, or the jack on the scanner is broken.
Chances are the adapter is not working or even incorrect polarity.

I agree, sounds like the adapter isn't providing power. Most of these type of sockets automatically disconnect battery power when the plug makes physical contact with the socket on the radio. So even if there's no power to the plug, and a fully charged battery, it's getting "no power".

Do you have a multimeter or a tester?

This worked for my similar problem with my Pro-95.

Are you using the correct adapter plug? If not, it simply may not be making contact.

It was the polarity problem. I don't know how it got switched around. Anyway, thanks for the replies.

wow it dont fry the scaner when its the wrong polarity? i have a pro 94 and im alwasy afraid that some how polarity will get changed on adapter so i refuse to use it.

Most new scanners are protected from that now. They have a diode in place so the power won't go past the jack if plugged in with the wrong polarity. Your Pro-94 should be fine. 8)

Although not recomended that you try, I have connected my Pro-94 with reverse polarity and it did not hurt it.
