I tried to look at threads but most of what I saw was people asking for specific frequency antennas. Where I live I listen to everything from 46 MHz all the way up to 800 MHz. what im looking for is a handheld bnc antenna 6inches to 7 inches high that will cover all of my frequencies better than the stock one that came with it . Thanks for the input !

not 6 or 7 inches but definately wide band . Austin Condor, 12.5 inches but easily covers the band spread you desire. They are bnc connections. Draqgon makes the stb2, its only 1.5 inches tall, mfj makes one mfj 1811. Unfortuneately if you want wide coverage, you get an antenna that is alittle long. If you want convience, you get a shorter antenna that may not pull in the weaker stations. If you want range an d gain, the antennas arfe not as convient . The Austin Condor is the one I have used for years, when going portable.

Do you you hear any VHF-Low with your Condor? Mine seems fairly deaf on vhf-low. Most of the places that sell them, do not advertise them as working on vhf-low.

I really don't have much low band activity anymore. All public safety has moved to vhf or somekind of trunking. I just use the antenna when setting up a portable listening post. At the house, use a dual band diamond base antenna for ham radio vhf/uhf. It works for anything I want to hear. I have an antenna switch box that isolates the two radios.

OK, Thanks. I was just curious. I was hoping to hear CHP better but the Condor doesn't seem to hear any better than other ducks that I have.

fire companies run on 46.100 and state police run 800 MHz that's why I need a good all band antenna.

That's a pretty high wide band for an antenna and don't know if you will find one. For external I can recommend a discone. But for a rubber duck I'm not sure. eBay has a selection and I've tried a few, but got poor performance on 800 MHz. It was a telescoping antenna.

For wide band something like this is what you would need, but I can't guarantee good performance in 800 MHz. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Scanner-Tel...pt=US_Radio_Comm_Antennas&hash=item41869de382

Here's another wide band antenna, but it doesn't go down to 46 MHz. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Harvest-SRH...pt=US_Radio_Comm_Antennas&hash=item43c885725f

well ko6jw was right, the Condor does not have low band design..My Austin Spectre does and it worked good for Mo, HP when they were low band. Here in Missouri, Kansas and Iowa, Illinois, everything has moved to vhf or 800. I know have a Sprectre that I don't need It was the only antenna that I could find that had a tip that was tuneable for the low bands.

I'm afraid the holy grail of an antenna that is six inches long, receives from DC to daylight with a 10dB gain and costs $4.99 still has not been invented. :)
