If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I am rather embarrassed to ask this but for amateur radio what do I set the channel bandwidth to in CPS 2 for wideband. There is a choice for 25, or 25/30. 25/30 is in red for wide, as is 12.5/15 for narrow.

Wow, it took a lot to get to this point with Motorola software. About tore my hair out.

25 is "wide" band analog and what you'd want unless you specifically knew for a fact that a specific repeater/user was running narrowband.

Thank you.

I bought 3 XPR 7550's (really good price, I couldn't refuse), and an XPR4550 mobile. I had programmed them with CPS 16, but no wide band. (For Amateur radio use).

So I went through the process of getting a Motorola account, CPS 2 software, and wide band entitlement. It was a long, learn as you go experience.

By the way, I learned a lot from this forum.

For cps16 you need to hex edit the software to enable wideband programming. Its tied to the programming software and not individual radios.

Depending on the radio type (which is.....what, exactly????), wideband may only be available if you obtain the wideband entitlement or feature for that radio since Moto and other companies have stopped including it in the radio by default due to the FCC's narrowmand mandate.

Far as I'm concerned the amateur radio community needs to transition to narrowband anyway.

I did obtain the wideband entitlement. And installed it with CPS 2. As stated, third post.

Radios as stated, XPR 7550 and XPR 4550. ( I didn't do the 4550 yet)

You good to go?

Yes, I programmed my 7550's with CPS 2 and the wideband entitlement at 25 khz. I was forced to use CPS 2, because Motorola does not support wideband entitlement for CPS16. I spent a lot of time searching for the "hex edit". I found two different edits that did not work for me. The hex edit is apparently a super secret that no one will reveal how to actually do it . Everyone just says "do the hex edit", but no one reveals how to actually do it. Apparently it is taboo here on this forum also.

Using CPS 2 is not such a big deal for me. It seems a little slow, but I am not programming multitudes of radios.

I also bought an XPR 4550 that I can't program with CPS 2, in order to do the wideband entitlement. There is some sort of limitation of the code plug. I am putting that radio on the back burner for now, as I just bought an Acom 1000 amplifier for amateur radio, and I will be installing a 240 volt outlet for it, and setting it up in my ham shack. That amplifier is a work of art!

What is the firmware release currently in the 4550? It needs to be R01.12.17 to be able to be programmed by CPS2.0

Friends don’t let friends go narrowband.
