I listen to Baltimore's trunked system quite a bit for work. Today I experienced some wierd stuff going on with that system. Every now and again, throughout the day, I would hear fire department transmissions on police talkgroups. Heard them on Citywide twice and on Northern and Northwest TGs.

The first time I heard it, I assumed that the scanner (Pro 96) had stopped scanning and just showed a randon TG when there was a transmission. Nope. Something else is apprently going on as the scanner seems to be working the way it always has. Listened to Baltimore County a fair amount today and no such things happening to me on that system. Leads me to believe it's not the scanner. Anybody else have something similar happen? What caused it? etc etc

I'm thinking atmospherics... I was just listening to TV Broadcast search on my 396 and commented that I was receiving TV channels that I cannot explain... from just south of BWI airport, I picking up TV channels 8, 12, and 16. I think the Ch. 8 is WGAL in Southern PA and Ch. 16 might be Salisbury on the lower eastern shore of Maryland... I also get Ch. 14 on a regular basis but I have no idea where that is coming from. Anyone know anything about Ch. 12?

Another post in the Maryland mentioned poor reception on the B County system...

None of this may be unrelated but....thought I'd mention it.

"The book" says that a solar flare shouldn't effect those frequencies (well, maybe channel 8). Maybe someone hasn't been reading the book.

It's not atmospheric conditions.

I have the same issue in Denver. It doesn't happen very often, but I have noticed South Metro Fire tones and dispatch on the Arapahoe County Sheriff's talk ID on the Greenwood Village Tower.

The only thing I can figure is the PRO 96 gets overwhelmed at times when the tower it's searching on is busy. My BC296 doesn't seem to have an issue with this.

Either that or the PRO 96 cannot release the talk ID fast enough before the delay ends and allows the next talk ID to be heard on the same freq.

I just tried something: I turned DELAY off of the control channel frequency. This releases the freq. immediately and sends the scanner back to the control channel to see where the talk ID went to.

We shall see...

Today I had no issues with FD on PD but I did hear the northwest dispatcher mention to a unit that they were having "bleedover" from fire. Maybe it's the city system acting up.

Maybe totally unrelated but occasionally, on the AA County TRS, I hear police comms at the end of conversations on the fire talkgroups. I'm not sure if this is just my 296 or 396 or it is actually happening... This is something that has happened for as long as I can remember - at least back to when AA County switched to their current system/config about 21 months ago.

Ch 14 is in NoVA, and there is also a ch 8 farther south in VA that can be picked up in Balt.
I can RX both depending on which way I point the TV ant on the roof.

It will be easier to to RX the audio signal than the video signal.
