If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I do have a XPR-7550e and wanted to activate Wifi. Its a capable model but it came with almost everything activated except Wifi and Conn+.
One dealer is asking $100 for the Wifi EID and another one is saying $20 BUT they don't deal in higher tier AA radios so the license he is offering would be for the equivalent LA radio which I think would be the DGP8550. Of course he's saying that if I purchase this license he cannot guarantee that my AA radio will allow to activate this LATAM EID, then again its just $20. Does anyone know if this is possible or not? Given this is Moto, probably not, but just was interested in hearing other opinions.

Or can anyone point me to a place where I could purchase a Wifi AA EID at the normal/regular price? (I assume this would be on or near $20).

Thank you.

An AA radio is just a radio for the North American market. The dealer that’s offering the LA EID is obviously a dealer that sells the equivalent Latin American model. Nothing really different about the tiers.

Just contact an American dealer who can sell AA EIDs.

Hi yes as I have explained in my initial post I did contact an American dealer and they where asking $100 for the Wifi EID. I have since found other online options at slightly lower cost, but given the very limited functionality to an end user of having Wifi enabled on the radio I have decided to pass on it and instead use Bluetooth to program the radio, a feature which came already activated. But when I add the radio on Bluetooth to the system (win7 32-bit) and pair it (had to use the no code pairing option, like when pairing a mouse), the computer afterwards pops up a small message in the taskbar area that says “Device Driver software was not successfully installed” and now in Device manager under Other Devices I see 3 items with yellow question marks all named "Bluetooth Peripheral Device". I then tried on another laptop, and the exact same thing happened again. I had to use the no code pairing option as the radio would never let me confirm the code the pairing procedure wanted me to use in order to confirm the pairing. The radio would stay on the "Find Me" screen and would not present any way to enter the pairing code.

I found what seems to be a solution with 3 options at the link bellow. The outlined methods 1 and 3 did not work for me so method 2 (manually downloading drivers) seemed like a good solution only that the provided download links to the Microsoft website do no longer work, so guess I'll have to try and find those drivers elsewhere at the third party driver sites, something that in general I am not too keen on doing for security reasons as some of them are always trying to trick you into getting something else, like an automated whole system driver check or a download manager, etc.

Here is the page with the solutions:

Any suggestions welcomed. Thanks.

Why not just buy the programming cable?

1. Start/control panel/devices and printers
2. Bluetooth settings
3. enable allow devices to find this computer(located in bluetooth settings)
4. Start/control panel/devices and printers/ add a device.
6. On radio, go to bluetooth settings and enable bluetooth and then hit find me.
7.On computer follow on screen prompts when the code is given, click on yes. Just do it.
8. On radio, hit the button right below p1 and accept.

Ok so I didn't say I had a cable, did not think it would be necessary as it is not really relevant to my question and it should have been pretty evident that I obviously have one. And yes I can program the radio with my cable, I know that. But I just want to familiarize myself with wireless programming, in this case over BT.

Not trying to sound hostile but if you read my post above you would see that I have already gone through the simple procedure that you are explaining, but in my case I am asking questions because after pairing the radio there is still a problem with the BT driver for the radio, and that is the main issue I am asking about. Again: the radio is already added to BT the devices and is paired, but windows failed to find a suitable driver so CPS cannot communicate with the radio.

Thank you and I am appreciative of your input. :)

After pairing, go to your taskbar and right click the bluetooth icon.

Select join a personal area network

right click, select connect using an access point

After that you should hear the standard chirp of the radio when properly connected.

You most likely don't have a driver issue, it's just the PAN step that tend to get missed.

No hard feeling, but as a tech, I just play it safe and start the troubleshooting process from the beginning regardless of what's been done. Especially when it comes to computers and radios. Even the most experienced radio people make mistakes or forget a step and anyone who says otherwise is either a liar or "that" HAM guy.
