Since there seems to be no way (at least as yet) to announce when people add things to the Wiki, I thought I might take a moment to announce the following changes.

- The HF Wiki has been greatly expanded, with new categories and lists. Perhaps most important for the newcomers among us to the HF world is a series of links with basic - and one or two not so basic - descriiptions and definitions of some of the terms you will hear and see in print;

- The SWL Broadcast Wiki has been expanded to include some more Yahoo groups, receiver modifications (including DRM mods) and one or two other categories;

- The Utility Monitoring Wiki has had a similar upgrade to the SWL Broadcast Wiki but the links there are a bit more focused - they don't mention DRM modifications for receivers, since that's pointless when working in the Ute bands

- The Antennas Wiki has been loaded with numerous links for antennas of all types - loops for the MW folks, commercial and homebrew antennas, some scanner antennas, ect. The Strong Signals antennas page has a series of manufacturer's links at the bottom of that page, along with reviews and other important information (such as coax and loss factors)

I'll be searching out more antenna sites and propagation material (since that topic confuses many), and adding them as I find them.

The rest, as they say, is up to you. 73s Mike

I appreciate that Steve. Let me throw this at you - is there a topic or topics you'd like to see covered that isn't there yet? I'd be open to adding some links if the interest was there.

:) I can't think of anything at this time, I'm just in the process of learning to run the IC-R75, I only listen to Utility frequencies and I'm in the process of making lists of the frequencies, Marine, Aero, Government, and so on I'm picking up on the receiver, Also I have just download a program so I can use my computer to program frequencies into the receiver. I live in Fort Erie Ontario Canada and the band conditions have been real bad lately, but the last couple of days I have been starting to receive frequencies and the conditions have improved.

Hopefully you also have downloaded the R75 cookbook; it's available on the Yahoo group for this radio as well as on a web page (see the 2nd RadioIntel link, then look at the left side of the list, listed alphabetically). I read thru it; it's got some interesting tuning tips and things that might make your life a little easier.
If you think of a topic that the HF Wikis should address that isn't there yet, pmail me and I'll dig into it.

Re-cookbook

Yep, Thanks Mike I have the cookbook; and it is a great help with the new receiver, I will let you know if there is anything else I can think of to put in the Wiki, I was just on the Wiki and put in some customs frequencies and others for listening to tonight. You do have a lot of information on their and it's a lot of help not having to go to several web sites to find this info and the information you have their is updated and is not out of date. Thanks

I still like the idea someone brought up for a marine wave dx wiki. I have liked dxing for years from standard FM radio to hf. I like to dx on AM and would be interested in clear channels and the such. I live in Corbin KY (bout 25 miles north of the TN line) and listen to WTAM 1100 out of cleveland for my marine wave fix.

Dumb question - what's a 'marine wave'?? Do you mean 'medium wave' - as in AM? If so, and that sort of DX interests you, then jump on over to the IRCA and/or NRC; both are dedicated MW DX clubs and have a wealth of info on that subject. Those links are on the SWL Broadcast wiki.
In addition, the Antennas Wiki has several items regarding MW loops. By far, the folks I used to know that did AM DXing used some sort of loop, so it's certainly a popular topic.

I feel like a idiot. Late night and I was bushed. Yes I did mean medium wave. I am sorry, I will check out the places you mentioned.
Thanks
