Hello All,
New to scanning and need some advice about using a wildcard when scanning please.
Should I use it or not. What do you pro's do?
Thanks Joe

Ii use it, but I only have 1 system in my area, and I think I have found all that I'm gonna find as far as talk groups go.
If You use a private wildcard, You will hear talk between different unit's if allowed on the system.

On a new system where all the talkgroups are not listed, this is very helpful.
If you are listening to a well documented system, depends if you want to know if any "new" channels pop up.

On very large systems, it may be a problem. None of the ones around here are big enough where I can not take care of the odd new channel here and there.

I agree-wildcard all the way. Then, if you decide to scan I.D's , copy the system and leave 1 open
( wildcard ) -1 for certain others. scan-i.d's.. the fun is endless

U can also put the "Wildcard" of a trunk system in the "NS" no-scan ScanList, monitor it there and if u see a new TG "SAVE" it to your normal list of TG's in the ScanList of your choice=great scanner....

I live at 27050 zip and have a pro 197 with win500 and with the wildcard I'm picking up 45+ miles. Sometimes that's more than I want to hear. Looks like I will need two programs with and without the wildcard.
Thanks for all the info.

When u create a "Wildcard" for a trunk system, instead of using the "*" asterisk to designate what ScanList u want it in u do not use the asterisk(*) and it goes in the "NS"=no scan list...Sit on it there, when a new TG pops up thats valuable press "stor", then use the "*" to move it to the proper scanlist ....
