A BC80XLT won't do it. They are now digital, but not encrypted. You'll need either a Uniden or GRE/Whistler/Radio Shack digital scanner to hear them.

I'm in MA and have a Uniden scanner that will work for you. PM me if you are interested in discussing this further.
Looking to buy a scanner to pick up Springfield police & fire. Will uniden bc785d with apco 25 card, or the rs pro 96 do the trick? I know the grecom psr 500/600/800 . rs pro 106/197 and the uniden BCD xt model's will. What's confusing me is the NAC and 3600/9600 bps. I hear that the apco 25 card will not support 9600 bpsThanks in advance was

NAC is like PL or DPL on analog frequencies.

The 3600/9600 baud thing only applies to trunking systems, it won't apply to Springfield which is conventional.

A 785 or 796 should do fine for P25 conventional channels.

Thanks Gary's, so any first generation digital p25 scanner should work?

Yes, even a 996T or 396T. Although the digital decoding is better with the newer generation of scanners and the "T" scanners didn't have NAC capability.

garys is correct. I couldn't get SPD channels 01,02,03 at all. Just the scratchy sound and no voice. So I went into the system and in the SET CTCSS/DCS option, I turned the 411DPL to OFF and now my 396T is receiving those three channels clearly again.

I wonder if the NAC capability (like the XT radios have) would make the reception clearer and get rid of the scratchy sound at the beginning of each transmission?
