Will I be able to hear on my HT1000?

I have a Radioshack Pro-97 scanner and can hear a local Fire Department fine. I bought a HT1000 and just waiting for the battery. Since I am able to hear it on my scanner, I should be able to hear it on the HT1000 just fine, right?

It all depends on the transmit strength, not the radio, right?

1st off, you have to have the HT1000 programmed. If you local FD is broadcasting on VHF and the HT is on UHF, you won't hear a thing.

Yes. It is programmed with the FD's frequencies.

Be careful! If you are not authorized to transmit, be sure the transmission function has been inhibited on those channels. It is illegal to transmit on a radio system that you are not authorized for.

Yes. The transmit feature is blocked on all 16 channels.

Yes. You will if it is working and programed properly. The HT1000 is a great radio.

As mentioned, if it is programmed properly, you will hear EXTREMELY well on the HT-1000. The HT-1000 is a real classic! Because it is a commercial grade radio, the audio, sensitivity and interference rejection is far superior to that of a scanner.
