And given the context of my comment was amateur radio, what's your point?

Go back and read your own post. Why would you be discussing something private and personal with your attorney via amateur radio?

If I can encrypt a Wi-Fi connection (which can go several miles with directional antennas, and can be set up with no licensing or registration whatsoever) without endangering national security or empowering organized crime, terrorists, or other boogeymen, what rational justification is there for forbidding encryption in the ham bands?

Because amateur radio is inherently international in nature, and goes further than "several miles with directional antennas".

Why shouldn't that be an option, if that happened to be the most mutually convenient means to do communicate? The only reason not to would be the stupid unconstitutional rule against HAM encryption. Also, why is encryption OK for business comms and your WiFi router, but not personal/amateur comms?

In the HF bands perhaps, but VHF, UHF and higher are pretty much line of sight. Have you ever made international contacts in the 70cm band without using a satellite?

I never have, but you can make long distance contacts on 70cm (and 2m) using sideband - I know of more than a few that do. Conditions have to be right for this to happen, but it can and does. The very same conditions that allows you to hear skip on VHF hi and UHF work on the ham bands, too.

Why are you geniuses reviving a two year old discussion??
