Will the HP-1 or HP-2 have ProVoice upgrade like the BCD536HP?

Also what's the difference between the HP-1 and HP-2?

I believe I found the main difference between the HP-1 and HP-2 .

The HP-1 (HomePatrol-1) does APCO-25 Phase I
The HP-2 (HomePatrol-2) does APCO-25 Phase I and Phase II

I'm guessing the HP-1 is missing the hardware to do APCO-25 Phase II

Well I for one would like to see the Homepatrol-2 get these latest upgrades... It's a great mobile scanner that's small and easy to mount, really the only reason I have one plus the color screen is really nice as well. UPMan, please make the push for the ProVoice and DMR options to the Homepatrol-2 scanners as well and thanks for all your hard work.

ProVoice technology is on the way out, so it wouldn't make sense for Uniden to invest this upgrade in many scanner models. The one ProVoice system in my area has already begun migration to a new system so it won't be around much longer.

Something tells me that the HP-2 is internally similar to the 325P2 & 996P2 - just enough re-tooling of the hardware to enable Phase-II for the customers that couldn't afford top-tier models like the 436 & 536.

That means the vocoder isn't designed to handle all the new modes or the processor in the scanner is not fast enough...

I think it has the same vocoder as the x36 radios.

I believe that is correct. Now the question: Does it have enough memory to hold the additional code. Assuming that is confirmed, the big one which trumps all other questions: Is Uniden's marketing going to allow the high end digital decoding features in a low end digital scanner?

I sure hope Uniden is going to upgrade the HP-2 , I have a new HP2 just sitting in the drawer, just about every agency here on the Ms.coast except Jackson Co.has switched over a few yrs ago to Pro Voice, especially here in Harrison County, Everytime I have to go over to the Base in Mobile I now see that Mobile City has switched over also. So Please UP GRADE

Remember that Harris has announced the end of support for Pro Voice and other EDACS trunking systems, I think by the end of next year although I may be off on the date. All Pro Voice will go away in the next few years, look for P25 systems to replace them. (First Net says they are the future, but that has a lot of ifs to it)

If you get a BCD536HP and use it with the Siren app, the app display is almost exactly like that of a Home Patrol. I have mine running at this moment on my Android phone, and it's like having a DMR capable Home Patrol. The Siren app is a free download, BTW. DMR is an optional (and extra cost) upgrade, of course.

I never thought that the Home Patrol 2 was a low end digital scanner. I feel that its probably one of the best scanners ever made. Even the HP-1 with extreme update has the best Analyze & Discover modes. And no question that the LCD touch screen looks 10 times better than the *36HP's .

I would think that Uniden's marketing could make more money on the Home Patrol 2 with Extreme Update and DMR being that it's a proven platform.

The next scanner I would like to see is a Home Patrol 3 with WiFi and GPS decoding DMR and NXDN .

Add some Bluetooth and an ethernet port and a power sensing wire with a large capacitor that can make the last write to the SD card and the HP-3E will be perfect

I am also ready for an updated version of the HP2. Excellent radio. Hope an HP3 will work as well and also require no firmware fixes as the HP2.

Don’t mind firmware upgrades that add new features, but the HP2 has been completely void of any problems needing firmware fixes.

Will order as soon as available.

I'll go with that. Sold the HP1 to buy the HP2.
Come out with a HP3, and I would put the HP2
in the car and retire the 396T. 396 is a bit
long in the tooth, but never missed a beat.
Thanks Uniden...
