• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

XTL/XTS5000 Will the XTS series decode MDC-1200 if the Call ID isn't on the call list for a conventional frequency?

Hi everyone,
I am not very familiar with using MDC-1200 since I have experience with TRS and we don't use MDC. Will my radio show the unit ID or any MDC information if I don't have the Unit ID or Call ID on the lists in CPS?

Thanks,
David

I do believe it will display RIDs but not on a call list, won't alert or open squelch.
I have seen different radios work differently such as if not on call list, you get nothing.

Not familiar with the XTS series, but I have a XPR 7550. My device will show MDC 1200 codes if I set the receive system to MDC. They do not need to be in my contact list. As a side not it is very hit or miss showing IDs while scanning. It will show them every transmission when on a channel not scanning.

If your MDC ID is 1200 it will show ID:1200 as compared to let's say "Engine 1 portable"
Just make sure it's selected to display decode ID

Sometimes depending on your location agencies will use the ID's only and no Alias. For example, since MDC will allow letters A thru I (If memory serves me), in places like NH the fire agencies will use the town/city code. For example (13) is for Laconia, folowed by (C) for Chief officer, or (E) for engine, followed by the assigned number.

So What pops up is 13c1 for Laconia Chief 1, 13e2 for Laconia Engine 2, 13a1 for Laconia Amulance 1, etc..

We did this. If you either saw the populated alias list, or the abbreviated one. Worked great for mutual assistance agencies who didn't have our alias list but still could tell who was talking.
