I'm not sure where to post this...

I work security in Midtown in Detroit and have my own radio which is an Ailunce HD1, which I use at work as my primary radio. It's primarily a ham radio. I'm able to monitor two frequencies at once with this radio. I also have a scanner that does P25. What I'm wondering, is can I use something like a RadioShack Simplex repeater to re-broadcast specific scanner traffic to one of our other radio frequencies that we never use? Our client works primarily with children so knowing what's going on in the area would be a huge help in being proactive about situations that are in our immediate area.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

I think this question would involve more of an attorney than a radio technician. I would question your model of HT being used in this type of communication, the frequencies involved and your license type in the security business, the recording and re-broadcast of such communication, etc. A lot going on here. Hopefully someone informed will chime in.

I'm not familiar with the Radio Shack simplex repeater. Obviously if you have one already, try it. May work fine for you.

Although I've never tried it, and don't know anyone who has, I've been seeing folks online talking about using a couple of Beofengs and an interface box as a repeater. Google "Beofeng duplex repeater ". Some stuff for sale on Ebay and Amazon. Some YouTube videos, that sort of thing. May be a viable option.

I would also think rebroadcasting law radio traffic to a group that has zero background (if that's the case) with monitoring such traffic would be useless. I have several radio savy friends who enjoy listening to a scanner who have zero clue what any of the radio jargon means. They just hear addresses and codes and have to look at a reference for any context. In some sort of emergency they probably need to be focused on what their assigned radio channel is broadcasting and not worrying about the traffic stop down the street or simply hearing some code they don't understand. Rebroadcasting law dispatch to another frequency also could be an issue. Especially if you're using something like murs or frs where I don't think (if I remember correctly) automatic crossband unidentified like that would not be allowed. But other than that... Simplex repeaters work decent for what they are. Surecom makes one that works well although the volume is a bit low.

Legal issues aside, the hardware wouldn't work. The simplex repeater is a store-and-forward repeater. It records on one channel, then repeats it on the same channel. It couldn't store the continuous radio traffic, and the scanner doesn't transmit.

How wide of an area are you covering? You could use a Bluetooth connection, if it is short range. Using a PTToC with VOX could be another option.

Better would be getting a scanner in the area of intended listening. You get bonus of having the TG displayed, so no guessing who you are listening to.

If you are saying you want to use one of the two channels on your HT to listen to your scanner, that's a cool idea. There are some technical issues besides legal ones. You would have to get some kind of transmitter that keys up when the scanner stops on a channel. As far as rebroadcasting that's what Broadcastify does so I think the only difference would be your use of transmitting on the air and their use of data. You could just use Broadcastify or set up your own account there if you want certain frequencies. If you're close maybe just an FM transmitter. I did run across this https://docs.fcc.gov/public/attachments/FCC-85-302A1.pdf
