I wasn't sure where to post this, so I apologize if it's in the wrong place. But do you guys think Uniden will ever release a handheld version of the Homepatrol scanner? I am seriously considering buying a Homepatrol, but if a handheld unit could be released in the near future, I may hold out.

Just looking for views or opinions. Thanks.

I doubt it. With it being able to fit in a pocket and run off batteries, several people already consider it a handheld...

We haven't announced such a product. Doesn't mean one is planned. Doesn't mean none are planned. Just means...we haven't announced one.

I'm just trying to be as neutral in my statement as I can. I really cannot talk about models that have not been announced, yet, whether they are or are not in our product roadmap. And, once a model is announced, there is no need to ask me if a model like that is coming out, because we've announced it. One time I said only "We've announced no new models" and it was taken to mean that we had announced that we would never have another new model. So, I have tried to craft a response that does not bias in any direction (I'm not "cunning"...I'm "crafty" :) ).

Forget a handheld version of the Home Patrol; keep building on the successful platform of the BCD396/996; the interface is one of the better ones today; it just needs RSSI site tracking and TDMA Project-25 Phase-II decoding. It would also be nice to have Mototrbo, NXDN, and D-Star, but beggars can't be choosers... Also, how about CTCSS/P25 decode on the fly; without having to change settings...

We're all certain Uniden has something newer coming down the pipe; we just hope Uniden is listening to user feedback and doesn't reinvent the when as did GRE with that crappy PSR-800 unit...
