New TGID's

Hi forum ... Happy Monday ...

Well the new WILCO Digital was active this weekend, I picked up 4 new TG ID's which I had not heard before..

4666 ?? Could not really identify
4708 which I believe mabe a RR FD to EMS channel
4721 which put a call out for Zebra 1 if that means anything to anyone
4772 ?? Could not really identify

Did anyone else hear any new ones?

If I recall correctly RRPD units working special assignments, Express games specifically, but maybe a high school football game as well would drop their normal identifier and switch to Zebra.

For the Express games I can't remember if Zebra 1 was the Sgt. in charge of the assignment or simply the first unit to check-out at the game.

This means 4721 might be the same as 1840 (Training) on the old system.

There are motorola techs in town working on things 24/7....it might be December before some folks switch....we heard rumors that RR might switch back to analog until problems are resolved.

With the Wilco simulcast system active, Round Rock was experiencing some missed audio - such as an officer in his/her patrol car hearing traffic on the portable but not on the mobile while both were on the same talk group, out of range "bonks" in areas where that shouldn't be an issue, varying audio levels fluctuating quite a bit, and occasional significant garbling/warbling of audio. We also found two sets of radios with duplicate radio IDs and aliases. The simulcast function has been shut off on digital for troubleshooting, so that RR will only use the prime site on the Wilco system with Austin's Martin Hill site as secondary, and problems are virtually non-existent. That isn't an end state, just one for troubleshooting.

We've discovered a number of template errors on Wilco templates and other agencies for whom we dispatch, and are taking our time to identify and resolve the issues that Round Rock has been experiencing and to vet all the templates in the Wilco fleet.

We're not looking to get the millions back... just to get the system to where it needs to be, and I'm very confident we will get there. Doing it right is vastly more important than doing it in pursuit of what has ultimately been an "arbitrary" timeline.

Thanks for the status update. I was wondering what was happening. The crack about the millions was just that - a wise crack. If you're spending millions then it most certainly should work as promised. I'm glad to see it being done right.

While I've taken a posture of readily sharing information about our radio system, I've stayed away from sharing talk group IDs - y'all are real good about figuring them out anyway - but I'll pass along TGID 4751 - it's being used by Motorola engineering for field testing of the system at present.

I just purchased a RS Pro-96 and I have programmed it using Win96 by importing the files from the Radio Reference data base. Everything works great except I cannot hear RRPD or RRFD. Any ideas?

You must program Williamson as it's own system using 860.9625 as the control channel. Put it in its own bank with the RR talk groups.

What's the latest on the Williamson County Radio cutover? I've not heard anything from the County regarding the changes. I noticed that Round Rock PD/Fire, Georgetown, Cedar Park, and the rest of the county are still on the old system. When can we expect to see the rest of the county moved? I'm really just curious because I'm putting off buying a new scanner until absolutely necessary.

Round Rock is entirely on the digital system and has been since 6 November (though they're simulcasting Fire Dispatch on the analog system, pending a station alerting system going on line). The remainder of agencies in the County will cut on or about 22 January 2008.
