:?: I am new to the scanner world and was wondering if someone could assist me by telling me what kind of scanner I need to listen to Wilson and Guadalupe County Emergency Service Frequencies. I have an old Realistic Pro-2045 and am having a hard time listening to much of anything. Please help...... :?

Guadalupe County Sheriffs are VHF analog but narrow band. Guadalupe County Fire and ems agencies use VHF analog wideband. Wilson County Sheriffs use digital VHF in conventional mode (no trunking). Wilson County Fire and EMS are on VHF conventional analog. I am not familiar with your particular scanner but it should work with most of the freqs for both counties. I will be posting some new info on Guadalupe County Fire dept freqs soon. Guadalupe County Fire depts will be utilizing two new repeaters for fire communications in the next month. One is already running and can be heard on 155.070. The current simplex fire channel is still on 154.310. Also Seguin EMS/Fire reportedly will be making some changes soon as well. As soon as all of this info is confirmed I will post the new freqs on the database. New Berlin VFD uses LTR in VHF on two towers but can be easily followed by programming the listed receive channels.

more to come!

Don't you need an scanner with the ability to decode digital transmissions like an RS Pro-96 to follow the digital side of the VHF system for Wilson County? Even though they are not trunked? Correct if my thoughts are wrong on that.

I know Atascosa County is migrating towards digital also, as they are updating thier PS units to Motorola Astro Spectra mobiles.

yes that is correct. You would need a receiver that is capable of decoding Apco 25 digital signals. As I stated that the scanner that was mentioned should be able to receive MOST of the traffic in Wilson and Guadalupe Counties. If one wishes to receive ALL of the traffic, then yes you would need a P-25 capable scanner.

Next to a scanner...
Atascosa County (borders Wilson) is Digital - i heard them last time I was in that area. There is still a lot to listen to without having a digital capable scanner.
