New to this How do I get the frequencies off RadioReference useing win500 to a ky.p500 file? All I see are bin files or pdf. Thanks so much
See this online
guide for some tips and screen shots.
What you'll to do is first, make a rough sketch of what you want in your file. What county systems do you want to load? What cities? Police? Fire? State agencies? Any trunked systems in your area? Your rough draft will speed the import process.
Now, create a new file in Win500.
Select the File menu.
Then "New template".
Next, under the scanlist names, these are the names of the various scanlists, where conventional systems will be assigned. These are of no specific size, so you can have one, or 100 or more, in any specific list, as long as your total objects (conventional & trunked system) aren't over total scanner capacity. For a new template, only Scanlist 1 is enabled. Make sure that all the ones you intend to use are active (the box under the "Scan" on the first screen is selected). I would go ahead & select all, so that you won't inadvertently leave one off, that had channels loaded.
While how you use the scanlist names is up to you, I assign names based on area (such as Dallas County in my case), or a major agency, such as the state troopers (Texas DPS for me; KY State Police for you would be the equivalent.)
Then, using the instructions from the
online guide, select:
File->Web import->RadioReference.com
You'll see that you have a choice of trunked systems or conventional. Start with whichever you want.
Let's presume you did trunked systems first.
Log in with your RadioReference user id & password, then select your country & state
Generally, trunked systems will be listed under the county (or counties) which they cover, so select the county, then find the system in the drop down list. Follow the import instructions in the guide, Be sure to select the tower site(s) near you, as well as the talk groups of interest. Before finising the import for each system, give it a name, and select the scanlist you want it associated with. You can also choose which text tag to use here. Select import from that screen , then when you go back to the first screen, select your next system, changing counties if needed.
After importing all your trunked systems, get out of the trunked import screens and back to the main menu.
Then:
File->Web Import->RadioReference.com->Conventional
Log in again, as above.
For statewide agencies, such as the state police, don't choose a county. Leave that at "-select-", then you'll see the statewide agencies to choose from.
Pick the conventional channels, and on the second screen, choose your scanlist & text tag choice, than import & go back to the first screen for more.
For agencies at the county or city level, those will be found ubder their home county. Pick the ones you want, by channel, make your tag choices, scanlist, etc. All of this is in the online guide.
Once you've finished all your imports, you can review all your conventional channels in the "Conventional Objects" tab, and tweak the text tags, reassign scan list #s if desired, change delay times, add/disable recording, attenuation, etc. For talkgroups, you can see them in the "All objects" tab, but most editing needs to be done on the TSYS objects tab. Click on the TSYS (the system itself) in the top window of that page, and all of the talkgroups associated with that system will show below it. All talkgroups must be associated with at least scanlist, or else you will get a "Heap" error
message.
Now that you have your file set up the way you like it, save it as KY.P500 (the *.bin files are the format used for the V-scanner files). Then load your new file to the scanner. Remeber that when loading a file from the PC, it will overwrite everything already in the scanner. If there is something you wish to save, download from the scanner to Win500 first, and save that under a new file name. Then, you can copy what you want from that into your new KY.P500 file & save the modified version.
Uploading a file to the scanner, using the pc cable, is covered on the online guide.
