Win 97 Dcs

I'm sure this has been asked before but I couldn't find anything on it:

How come win 97 wont accept a DCS code inputted into it? It defaults to putting a CTCSS tone in it's place

ex: trying to enter DCS 703 --> hit enter --> 254.1 appears

nevermind - problem solved, had to select DC in the mode column...next question:

WIN 97 accepted all the CTCSS tones that i entered even though the mode was set to FM. will it work it CT mode if FM is selected, or does CT specifically have to be selected.

why would rs put ct/dc as a mode (such as fm,am,ssb)

Does it survive a trip uploaded to the radio and then downloaded from the radio? I am pretty sure when it gets to the radio it will disappear.
