If you have that cable it should work with no problems. Bring up Win95 and click on configuration.
Select serial port and set the comport for what ever port you have it attached to the computer. Enable the writeback option. Turn on the scanner and plug in the cable. The scanner should say *CLONE MODE*
At this point don't touch the scanner. In Win95 select scanner at the top and then Upload to Scanner to send a file to the scanner. If you want to download from the scanner to the PC select Download from Scanner. Let us know if this works for you.... :D

With the 20-289 cable, the scanner may or may not display CLONE MODE when you plug the cable in. Usually, the scanner's display doesn't change until you actually start a data transfer at the PC.

Other cables (e.g. the "Purple" cable, home-brewed cables, etc.) generally _do_ cause the scanner to display CLONE MODE as soon as the cable is attached.

If Win95 "goes through the motions" but nothing happens to the scanner, it's likely that the COM port selection (Configuration menu, Serial Port item) in Win95 isn't correct.

On my 92 here I keep the cable plugged in along with the power cable at all times.

It only affects the scanner when I upload or download to the scanner.

I can keep that cable plugged in at all times. Its the RS cable. 20-289

If the scanner is doing nothing then as the other posters said make sure to chek chte com port you have it on, and of course make sure both ends of the cable are plugged in all the way.
How about you take us thorugh the mothins step by step with what you are doing. It may help us to help you find the one step you may be missing or not quite getting correct.

As an aside. Hey Don, I know you arent doing to much more o the 92 software but could you possibly introduce the ability to extend the scan range? I know you have it on others maybe you could help ius 92 users out here.

BTW. Loving my 96 and its sowftware really is a blessing. Unfortunatly I dont get to keep either one.
I bought the software for my brother in law when he bought his 96. Now I have gotten to keep it for a week by telling him it takes a bit to program it.

Thanks for all the hard work.

I'm sure he would if he could, but it is not possible because the 92 checks the frequencies to make sure they are in the 'right' band when you upload it. The 95 and others don't.

hmm. Ok.

[never gonna happen wish mode]
It would be great if we could figure out a way to make any regularscanner a digital scanner. Or to figure out how to interface with the pc and do anything we want.
