On the settings/weather tab, what is the weather channel attenuation boxes all about?

Why does the backlight control always open up on PRO 96? Even if I change it over to PRO-2096, does that have any effect on anything?

SR2, SR3, SR4 Tabs. What are those all about? What do I do with them? If I click to turn search on. I don’t get nothing. I have tested activity on the FRS band and it doesn’t pick anything up? Does it not scan those?

What is the difference between “bank enabled” and “bank closed”?

Extrapolating from my experience (I don't have a 96):

On the settings/weather tab, what is the weather channel attenuation boxes all about?

Separate attennuator setting for the Wx channels.

What is the difference between “bank enabled” and “bank closed”?

Bank enabled/not enabled - if it's not enabled you won't hear anything in that bank.

Bank opened/closed - if it's opened you'll hear all talk groups on trunked systems in that bank. If it's closed you'll only hear trunked system talk groups that you have entered.

No idea (well, ideas, but just guesses) about the other two.

Why does the backlight control always open up on PRO 96?

The PRO-96 vs PRO-2096 selection doesn't affect the scanner. It only turns on/off the scanner-specific backlight options within Win96. It's supposed to indicate that, for example, when you have "PRO-96" selected, the "DIM" and "BRIGHT" options will have no effect on that scanner.

Even if I change it over to PRO-2096, does that have any effect on anything?

It only affects the Win96 controls, and doesn't do anything to the data sent to the radio (either radio).

Those tabs correspond to the PRO-96/2096 FRS, Police/Fire, and Aircraft search ranges. They just let you enter or review lockouts, change attenuation settings, etc.. The "Search On" checkbox on the SR2 tab tells the radio to start scanning SR2 when you enable that range on the scanner - as opposed to just sitting on the last FRS channel seen (same as pressing FUNC SEARCH on the radio's keypad).
