WIN96 and The PRO2096 - Extended Frequencies Unlock?

Since the manual states that the PRO-96 can be cloned with the PRO-2096, can we assume that WIN96 works with the new 2096?

Also, can we assume that this also goes for the "extended frequencies" ability?

Can't remeber for sure, but I think I asked the same question some time ago. And the answer I believe was, yes it can.

While I'd have to actually test Win96 with a 2096 to be sure, I believe all features will work.

There might be some minor changes to Win96 to support differences between the 96 and 2096. For example, the backlight functionality looks different.

*In theory* and I have requested to my DM and Fort Worth to be the first on the block to recieve this scanner when it becomes available and since we out sell almost every store in scanner volume I'd like to think it will happen.....

I will test the scanner out as soon as I get it and post the results here.

Ditto. I'll take the word of the software author on the capabilities of a piece of software over some site webmaster any day.

I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone's sensitivities by using bold on here. Not sure why it does, but I can cease and desist.

I agree that Don's earlier statement on the website was likely based in good faith on what he was told about the 2096, and that some fine tuning will need to be made for full compatibility once he has the final product in hand. Unfortunately I posted that statement before I saw Don's comment above (just missed it), or I either wouldn't have made the post, or made it differently.

Then again, the website doesn't actually CONFIRM that the two are 100% compatible. There may be some tweeks needed.

Also, I read that site as the PRO96 website, not the Win96 website. My bad. [In my defense, there is only a Win96 web PAGE, not a web SITE - Win96.com, .net, or .org, for example, doesn't exist. Well, the first two do, but not for the Win96 software!]

I would still take Don's word over anyone else's as to the capabilities of his software.

Sort of. Don said on his web site (quite some time ago), that Win96 would work with the rumored PRO-2096. I will still stand by that assertion.

However, there are minor differences between the operation of a PRO-96 and PRO-2096 - see the backlight example I cited earlier. Such differences may require minor "tweaks" to Win96.

Keep in mind that the PRO-96 and PRO-2096 are "clone compatible". From the PRO-2096 manual on the FCC site: This scanner can send/receive the data to or from a PRO-96 scanner. But Right [ed: this should probably read "Bright"] (PRO-96) and Dimmer (PRO-2096) setting does not transfer. There are to set the default setting. Since Win96 uses the scanners' "clone mode" to transfer data, if it's compatible with one it's compatible with the other.

Maybe... maybe not. It depends on whether there are differences between the two that can be addressed by Win96. The only difference I've seen, so far, is the backlight. But the text I quoted above says that's not transferred (you get default settings). We know the backlight info is transferred between two 96s, so we'd have to see what happens between two 2096s, or between a 96 and a 2096.

Win92,Win93,Win95 & Win96 can do everything you can do with just your scanner plus some. From opening up additional frequencies to allowing you to back-up/restore configurations and for the non-V-scanner units combined with a PC and preferably a laptop for portability gives unlimited V-scanner-like operation. The user interface is sleek and well thought out. No manual is really necessary to use the software and by using the software you get a immediate undersatnding of how your scanner is laid out. Once you use the Winxx products you'll never go back. Highly recommended and well worth every penny.
