I programmed both of my pro 96 scanners using the win96 program. Problem is that I cannot hear the tones for some countys when it is in CT mode. Never had the problem when I programmed them manually. I am refering to fire/ems dispatch tones. Has anyone else come encounter with this problem?

Thanks

It is possible that they do not transmit the paging tones with the CTCSS tone. That would keep someone using a radio who monitors the channel to not have to hear the paging tones (as my Paramedic friend would love to do :D )

Many repeaters do not transmit the CW ID with the CTCSS/DCS tones for the same reason.

Thats what I thought as well. The thing is that when I programmed it manually it worked fine with the CT mode. It is weird that when I used the software it would not work unless I put it in FM mode. Thankyou for your response

Was it in full "CT" mode when you did it by hand, or was it searching for the tones? I've never used the 96 but do have a 97. I have rarely programmed it by hand though, only adding a CH for awhile before I adjust it using win97.

It was in full CT mode. Not sure if there is an adjustment that needs to be made on the software or the scanner

What NJ counties are you having this issue with? I know that some of the south Jersey counties do no put out the tone portion of dispatches with ccts, only the voice portion. Personally I love it, more interested in hearing the incident than someone elses tones.

Burlington & Camden lead the list for doing that, and I agree, it's better on the ears!

There is also a valid reason for doing that - PL or DPL encoded at the same time as the tones can de-sense a pager and cause it not to activate...
