Hello,

A few days ago I downloaded/installed Win97 from www.starrsoft.com. I unzipped the file fine, and was looking at a blank template when I opened the .exe file, and actually uploaded a friend's Win97 file. Everything was fine.

I went to open it again the next day, and when I click on the .exe file, I get a key expired message, saying my temporary key has expired. If you believe this message is in error, please contact the program's author.

Now I have NOT YET tried to purchase the software, so I was never issued a key. I am confused as to why it worked fine the first time I opened it, but now continue to get the key expired message. I have emailed Don Starr, but have not gotten a reply as of yet. I have used many of his software programs, past and current, and have not experienced this problem before. I hope to hear back from Don soon, but in the meantime if anyone can offer help or assistance I would greatly appreciate it.

One last thing. When I first encountered this problem, I did try to re-install the software, and still I am getting the key expired message. Thank you for any help.

As I understand it, if the program is running correctly it's limited to running until a computer date that's more than 30 days past the computer date on which it was installed. Are you sure your computer's date was correct when you installed it? If it wasn't - say it was set to April instead of May - the program would expire pretty quickly.

Other than that, wait until Don sees your post - or register the program.

Dates on computer were/are up to date, so I am still unsure why I am having this issue. I have sent Don Starr another email, and am awaiting his reply. Hope it can be resolved soon.

As stated, I have not yet tried to order/pay for this software. I only downloaded it for trial purposes in the past few days, therefore, I would not have been issued a key. Don, if you read this, I hope to hear from you soon regarding this problem.

I have been having the same problem, only mine arose after I purchased the software.

There must be some remedy, seeing that this problem has happened before to others. Based on my internet searches there's not a whole lot of people with this problem, so the problem must be on my end and not with the program itself.

He did try to help me a through some basic troubleshooting and verified the key as valid, but I am still locked out of the program by that expired key message.

Reviving an old thread to see if perhaps someone had a similar problem and what you did to get it resolved.

I really enjoyed using the program during the trial phase, so it is quite frustrating to not be able to use the program after paying for it.
