The Windsor Police Service will be moving to an encrypted radio system on April 22, 2009. After this date, the general public and media will not have access to audio radio transmissions. Only media will be able to access information through a website.

A media information meeting will be held on Friday April 17, 2009 at 11:00 am at Windsor Police HQ. in the 4th floor boardroom.

I believe this might be part of their new Project 25 TRS, that has been in planning stages for a few years.

I just spoke to a few folks at the TV station in Windsor. The police have setup a website that lists all the calls as they are dispatched with a short description. No word on whether this one was posted.

Officer Suspended
On April 24, 2009, Constable Colin Little, a nine year member of the Windsor Police Service assigned to the Patrol Division, was detained by the Canada Border Service Agency with a large quantity of alcohol. Subsequently, the officer was charged with three offences under the Customs Act.

Upon being notified of the detention, Windsor Police Chief Gary Smith had the officer suspended from active duty. The Windsor Police Service is currently conducting an internal investigation surrounding the sequence of events leading to the Customs Act charges.

When Chief Smith is satisfied, and is in receipt of all the pertinent facts, the need for suspension will be reviewed along with the need for any further disciplinary action.

Things like above, the Youtube fiasco, officers being investigated for theft, are the main reason to go encrypted. They need to protect themselves.

They want us to believe it's for citizen privacy concerns. Nice try.

c'est la vie

How would an encrypted radio system help them cover up bringing in too much alcohol?
