Greetings,
My equipment is, Whistler TRX-2 and a Radio Shack Pro-94. A Tram 1410 Dis-cone mounted 30 feet above the ground and about 5 feet above the house roof. I live out in the country side of Lewisburg, Pa. The nearest FM radio station tower is approx 5 miles away. I am not sure as to the locations of the County broadcast towers. I had a homemade J-Pole antenna i used for 2 years. I bought the TRX-2 and found i needed to upgrade the antenna. This was 9 months ago. I hope this is enough background information.

My problem i noticed about 4 months ago on the Union County PA EMS Dispatch 460.375 (tone 136.5) that at times the Dispatcher from the county 911 center sounds like he is outside in the wind talking. It isn't all the time or specific to a time of day or dispatcher. Now on the other EMS channel 460.525 (no tone) this sound isn't heard. It is only when the Dispatcher is online. I have tried seeing if anything changed in the area and nothing. I used different settings on the TRX-2 and it doesn't make a difference. I hooked up the Pro-94 and it too is getting the same sounds. Now i did notice something, using both scanners i found that it appears dispatch does the initial dispatch on the 460.375 with tone. Then broadcast replies on the following simultaneity 460.525 and also the Fire response freq of 155.535.

Is this the cause of the wind sounds? I tried taking the Pro-94 out and traveled and it still does this. So if I'm picking this up wouldn't the units in the EMS be hearing the same thing? Or is this a scanner issue? Thanks.

If I had to guess, it is likely a problem on their end. Since it is intermittent, maybe a bad headset or connection to the console. A fan blowing on dispatcher?

My guess is that someone has a fan on them and is using a standard microphone without a windsock or a dispatch microphone not compatible with a fan.

This very thing happened at my old employer.

P.S. - An HVAC outlet near a console can do the same thing.
