Having a problem with getting the Advanced FAX decoder to decode a fax. Looking for any info. Looked through the help and it wasn't that helpful. I have copied fax for years with a universal M-8000. I don't see any way to sync the FAX signal to the decoder. In USB and subtracted the 1.9 khz with the "Wait for start" tab active nothing happens. I do see the clipping "light" triggering.

Thank you for the reply.

This is for HF FAX. I set the subcarrier time on & time off to 3 seconds per the help.

The start / stop tone detection is set as follows.

Demodulation set to FM.
Start 1 = 1500 hz Amp = 1.0 Legnth = 1.5 s
Start 2 = 675 hz Amp = 1.0 Legnth = 1.5 s
Stop = 2300 hz Amp = 1.0 Legnth 1.5s
Then I changed the stop to to 2076 hz to get 576 hz for shift. I then set it back to 2300 Hz.

I have Active & squelch selected & deselected is enable Start 2 & Start 2 IOC/2.

From reading the help the FAX signal I am tryiong to receive is a single signal and therefore I disabled
Start 2. I have a very strong signal.

With the "Receiving" tab active I clicked the "Wait for Sync" which seemed to force start the FAX. The image was mostly white with some wavy lines. No inteligable information.

Thanks.

I think you have it all wrong. Don't have time to research at the moment - I'll get back to you. From memory the HF fax tones are 300 for start, 450 or 600 for stop - there's no subcarrier - that's for the satellites.

Thanks,

I seem to be receiving the schedules ok the type is perfectly readable but, the map images are washed out.
On the latest map I can make out the shoreline of the East coast but, not much else.

Aah - OK! I don't have the WinRadio decoder but use another with my NRD515 - the contrast between black and white is improved with audio signal level (which you probably can't adjust) and accurate tuning - if you have a bandscope in the WinRadio decoder, does it show both frequencies? Do the stop/start tones work with the schedule page? Theschedule page is printed in BOLD characters which is why it is more readable.

Yes, the start & stop tones work. I am now getting som immages but, they are really wavy I have been playing with the Rows/minute setting to see if I can correct it more.

Thanks

Ok here's the data plucked out of the programme "WxSat" which is what I use.
Black frequency 1500Hz
White frequency 2300Hz
Start tone 300 or 674Hz
Stop Tone 450Hz
RPM 120 (rows per minute? Thats revs per minute - the old systems used a rotating drum!)
Don't know about the FM demodulation - it's an SSB signal of two tones. I don't think I have any choice!

If your picture slants then the clock frequency is wrong - there should be somewhere to adjust it. You usually have to draw a line down the (nearly?) vertical side of the pic with the mouse then click on something else and some sums work out what the error is and changes the clock!

Thanks,

The modulation is FM for HF FAX using USB. My values are the same except for the start tone. Mine was off
a little I have changed it and we will see.
