Hi, I saw your post on WinRadio and curiosity got to me. Is WinRadio still in business?
Yes, WinRadio is still in business.
Opinion follows, I have no connection to WiNRADIO, Radaxon, Robotron, or any of their related companies. I am just stating my observations, and opinions based on those observations. I have been a WiNRADIO user, both hobby and professional, since the WR-1000 was released.
WinRadio sometimes seems a little schizophrenic to me. In addition to their professional gear, they make some really quite good hobby receivers, but appear to make little effort to market them to the hobby community. The majority of their offerings are specialized, mostly aimed at a professional market, and not general hobby receivers. Hobby use just does not appear to be important to them, not their bread-and-butter.
The G31 and G33 receivers are excellent, and they are at price points which can be considered hobby oriented. Not inexpensive at all, but consistent with what a good quality desktop receiver cost in years past. I actually have not priced either in several years, but when I bought mine the G31 was sub-$900 and the G33 was sub-$1600. And I understand they are significantly more pricey today. The same can be said for the G305 and G315 series, not cheap, but not unattainable either.
But once you step above these receivers, the WinRadio catalog is obviously professionally oriented. The next step up is the G35, which was $5000 (with options) when I was shopping for mine, as was the G39. The G65 and G69 are much more capable, and one assumes (but I honestly have not priced them, I might be too tempted if I did), more expensive. And that is just considering the basic receivers, not the complete packages they offer for specific applications. Direction finding, monitoring and surveillance, sonobbouys, etc.
T!
