The Warren County area recieved a heavy blanket of Ice last night and today. More winter weather is expected. All Bell South/AT&T cell phone service is out. Apparently most residential/commercial Bell South/AT&T service is also out. There also appears to be a large number of power outages in the county.

This is providing very interesting listening as all agencies are using the radios for mostly all communications.

EMA is currently setting up shelters and advised they will be utilizing school busses and other forms of transportation to take people to shelters. They also advised that they would be using VHF radios to communicate between each shelter. They did not specify what frequency.

Should be some interesting listening for a while.

Very active on:

BGMU's System
City/County System
- EMA Frequencies
Conventional
- WRECC
- EMA (soon to be)

I've noticed in the past, when one or two cell sites go down with AT&T, it seems to knock most of them out as well. When a tornado went through Southern Indiana, everything from Bloomington South was out. Of course this could just be overload because the regular phone service is out.

I wonder how Nextel & Verizon is fairing, though VZW is a roaming partner in that area I believe. Hope the radio systems hold up, sounds like they'll need it tonight.

Come on down to Nashville if you can make it. Never need any winter weather gear here just a big squeegy. Raining here no problems. Of course people can't drive on rain soaked roads either. Metro PD TRS just standard BS. Come on down. No ice to be had here.

Thanks for the invitation to Nashvegas! Of course davidp124's offer to be in Vegas would be nice too...visiting the family again? And no our old radio system did not work last night. They could not get many of the radios to transmit properly. I left for dinner and when I came back several hours after the Armature Radio Operators were stepping in at all the Red Cross shelters.

I am an armature radio operator and even I thought that the whole idea of being able to communicate when no one else could was getting less and less of a realistic argument. Then last night harped and I was shown just how easy it does happen. No phone and and old radio system not working and, we have crisis with only one organization capable of stepping up to handle the situation. The local hams did a great job!

Hats off to the hams for doing a great job. Hold the fort down. Vegas has got an awsome VHF system for LVMPD. They are looking to upgrade to Ma-Com or some sort of 700mhz trunk system.
