A buddy was tuning the milsat downlink range and came across a massively strong FM signal around 261.830MHz carrying someone singing to music.

Some investigation suggested it was probably someone local doing karaoke, and a google search turned up some wireless microphones operate in the frequency range, 261.8MHz in particular.

I haven't encountered that before :)

We have this thing called first Friday in old town, like a sidewalk gathering socially partying. Some larger bands setup in parking lots.
Close enough I get some wireless mics with my SDR near that frequency range. two big nightclubs within a block and half do that
Karaoke thing, but haven't seen wireless for that. Not every month though, weather permitting.

I have run into similar issues with non-FCC type accepted wireless mics near me. I ofter hear singing and preaching from a nearby church in the 260 -300 MHz range...

In this particular case, definitely not :)

Signal too strong & too broad.

Actually the only SATCOM "pirates" I've ever heard over this way are speaking Russian.
