Hello Everyone, This may be an old question but I have a Baycom Modem that I am trying to get to talk to My PC. I have installed AWGPE and UI-View.
In the AWGPE set up under "Modem Type" there is no listing for the Baycom Modem as stated in the help file. The Modem is working as I can view the audio input and the RS-232 output with my CRO. I feel that I am missing a silly little step. Please can I get some suggestions what I have done wrong or missed.
Regards
Ian

I Googled "Baycom TNC" and came up with some possibly useful info about using AGWPE with a Baycom:
Note: When selecting the modem during setup, you
should select "BayCom Serial" if you are using a
BP-1, BP-2 or BP-2M. Select "BP-96" if you are
using a BP-96/BP-96A.
Also found a link to this extensive document that includes the Baycom manual (which may nor may not apply to your TNC): https://www.tapr.org/pdf/DCC1993-Baycom-KB2BBW.pdf

Thank you for your reply. I have been chasing this issue for a week now. I have loaded the program and in the "TNC Type" list, my version of the software does not list a "Baycom Modem" as the instructions indicate. I believe the issue is that the smart TNCs communicate over RS-232 where the Baycom Modem communicate via the handshaking lines. I am trying to get an APRS up and running for JOTA this weekend so I really only need to get the receive up and ruuning.

Given that you are dealing with a device that is over 30 years old and that used a non-standard way of communicating with a computer, maybe it's just not worth the effort.

If all you need is a method to receive APRS beacons, you can probably connect the receive audio from a radio to the sound card mic or aux input on a Windows computer and run AGWPE to decode the packets.

Think you need a program called TFPCX driver software for the baycom modem.
But it will not run on 64bit OS
Check out Jon's webpage
Also the original baycom modems used the 12V rs232 signals as a psudo ac voltage and rectified them to power the baycom. They will not run on a usb to rs232 TTL converter cable.
You can modify them by supplying external 12V to the 5V regulators input.

Hope that helps
