I was just curious, and i couldn`t find this in the Wiki entry for Wiscom, but does anyone happen to know when they`re going to be letting regular users onto the system? I`d guess that`s still a good ways off right? Just curious guys :). Thanx! N9NRA

Anybody using Unitrunker on the WISCOM system ?. I'm not having much luck.

I can not get it to copy the control channels (tried multiple sites).
Well it tries, but on nice clean signal only get about 30 percent health

Same equipment works 100 percent on the Minnesota 800 system.

Thanks

Odds and Ends

I heard the techs on the Shell Lake & Lampson towers today. Sounded like they were having issues with the Dresser/Baldwin towers affiliating with their Kenwood radio.

I don't think I heard that conversation specifically, but I did hear a lot of traffic that day. Lampson is definitely on the air so I'm wondering if OpSec is willing to add it to the database yet. I just checked, though, and I still can't decode a site ID.

It also does have good coverage. I happened to be in Danbury yesterday and had a good signal on the stock antenna.

One more thing...
I see the minutes of the SSMG Technical Workgroup meeting are now on the website in case you haven't seen it yet. Good read, has a lot of information about coexisting with ARMER and other technical details. Looks like there might even be an 800 site in Douglas County.

I could see maybe a couple of 800 sites in border cities and metro areas, maybe even utilising the DHFS/DOC trunking system freqs if they choose to put them on WISCOM

Anybody know how long before, if ever, they are going to begin rolling out the system for WSP, DNR, DOJ etc. Or at least begin to simulcast?

Lampson is on air, but it still won't show site ID. What's the other freqs for Lampson?

Lampson has very good coverage, it's high enough up. It serves as a tower for DNR Yellow, State Patrol, MARC1, DNR Purple, Washburn County Sheriff & Fire main, and now WISCOM.

Well it was a little bit of a chore getting the coax to lay just right to get just enough signal strength to decode, but I found Site 64 on 139.6625. Given the site number sequence, could this be the elusive Mercer site?

Good info in the wiki, OpSec. And not to nitpick, but I see when you added the latest sites to the db, you left out the location information. Not sure if you were planning on fixing it later or just overlooked it.

Keep up the good work!

This afternoon I heard 2200 testing on TECH 101 and STAC1. Seemed like the usual testing after they put a site on the air, so I'm wondering if there is a new one in the southeast also?

While listening to the Bennett tower this morning I could only hear one half of a conversation on tg:105. Any reason why this would be other than that they are still building the system out. I would think that both sides of the conversation would be carried if one of the radios was affiliating with the Bennett tower. Also, for what it is worth, pretty spotty reception of the Bennett tower in the City of Superior.

Yes, that is usually how it works. With individual calls, though, if only one of the units is affiliated with the site you are monitoring, you should only hear the other unit's traffic and not the local unit. But this isn't what happened because you said the traffic was on TG 105.

What make of scanner do you have? I suspect you have a Uniden in which case it will mute when encountering any encrypted traffic. It's quite possible the other unit that you couldn't hear was encrypting while the one you did was in the clear.

Also, for what it is worth, pretty spotty reception of the Bennett tower in the City of Superior.

I noticed that also. But that's why in the 80-site configuration there is a site in Wrenshall which should give great coverage over a lot of Douglas County, the Twin Ports, and into Minnesota.

Coincidently, I also heard traffic on TG 105 on the Delafield tower in the afternoon with only one side of the radio traffic. Perhaps they were talking to each other? Wouldn't both sides be heard at both sites , though?

Also....

Hearing new control channel on 139.1875 (0B0Ch-0202) in the Milwaukee Area. I am on the edge of the signal it sounds like...possibly be either Kenosha or one of the Walworth county sites?

Site 2 is Baraboo and already on the air, but not with that CC frequency. Continue to monitor and see if/when the site ID or frequency changes because I don't *think* 139.1875 is a correct frequency either.

I know what the deal was. The other tech was on TG100 on the Shell Lake tower and only the Shell Lake tower.
