The only frequency that I've heard them on from up north a bit is on a repeater outputting on 462.4125. I gave up on the 800 TRS because there aren't even any control channels opertional... at least within in my range from the Brown - Outagamie County line area.

In sheboygan county Nextel is using 4 or 5 of these frequencies, the others are quiet.

I brought this subject up because last friday WP&L was working on power lines in my neighborhood and I noticed all of the trucks have 800 MHz antenna's on them.

WP&L (Alliant Energy) uses "iDEN" technology (similar to Nextel) and is not monitorable on any scanner. See below for a quick snippet:

iDEN (Integrated Digital Enhanced Network) is a wireless technology from Motorola combining the capabilities of a digital cellular telephone, two-way radio, alphanumeric pager, and data/fax modem in a single network. iDEN operates in the 800 MHz, 900MHz, and 1.5 GHz bands and is based on time division multiple access (TDMA) and GSM architecture. It uses Motorola's Vector Sum Excited Linear Predictors (VSELP) vocoder for voice compression and QAM modulation to deliver 64 Kbps over a 25 KHz channel.

Interesting, so the noise I hear on these frequencies is WP&L, not Nextel.

Thanks for the info.

It will sound kind of like 'white noise' or the digital encrypted audio from a EDACS Pro-Voice system.
