Living in eastern Haywood County, I have in the past had success with monitoring Blue Ridge Southern rail with lots of activity in and around the Evergreen Mill. I have heard nothing over the last couple of months. I would assume I should be hearing BRS as well as Norfolk Southern shouldn't I?

In addition, I would like to see if anyone has had success with monitoring Catalochee Ski Area. I have the DMR capability and should be hearing something shouldn't I?

I still hear the Blue Ridge Southern trains on the radio from time to time, their signal is just very weak. You probably won't hear any N-S traffic this far out. N-S signal fades out in western Buncombe County.

As for the Ski Area, I know the DMR site lists them as having DMR frequencies, but they're all analog as far as I've been able to monitor. Switch them all to analog in your programming and you'll hear a lot of traffic up there. I know the Cataloochee Ranch (adjacent to the Ski Area) uses DMR frequencies during their open season (early Spring to late Fall)

Do you have any luck picking up the Buncombe 700 P25 system in Clyde?

I'll try that in terms of the analog. The short answer to your question is no, I do not have an outdoor antenna simply because I don't really want to drill holes into my home and/or create other problems associated with mounting an antenna. I have both the 996xt as well as a 436hp and cannot really get much on the Asheville p25 system or the Buncombe p25 system unless I am in Buncombe County....where it does work.

The only real digital traffic I get is off of the Chambers Mtn. site on Viper, with the state agencies and from time to time the Haywood Law talk group that I believe is anti-narcotic work? The Hazel Top site is there but is often weak.

In addition, with my set up, I can hear Madison County VHF as well as Buncombe Fire VHF with all of the other Haywood VHF and UHF from Chambers. What are you monitoring?
