Wondering if anyone has experienced this problem....
When scanning aircraft comms at my local airport recently, I inexplicably found the audio on all frequencies to be "clipped"; that is, I was getting three to five bars, yet most of the audio was unreadable. It sounded like the wrong mode was selected, even though AM is displayed. Trunked public safety radio is working fine, as are other NFM signals.
Doing a "Service" scan for CB Radio, it sounded much the same...transmissions were clipped.
Just to be sure someone hadn't moved all the local air-band frequencies 250 KHz to the left while I wasn't looking, I dug up my trusty AR8000...aircraft frequencies sounded as they should.
In addition to testing the same frequencies on my AR8K, I've reloaded all air frequencies with my BuTel ARC250 into the same memory bank and a different bank, making sure there were no improper mode settings. I've also "Search" scanned the air band. Same results. Finally, as a last resort, I gave my 296D the "three finger salute", resetting the radio and reloading everything with ARC250. To me, this sounds like a problem exclusively with the AM band.
I don't know what I could have done to my scanner to make this happen...to the best of my recollection, I was receiving air-band fine the last time I was at the airport.
A quick-and-dirty search on Google has helped little...anyone heard of this issue before?
