I sent the vendor off ebay a message about it, and he wants to charge me a 15% restocking fee if I don't take an exchange. 15% of $500 is $75 for something that wasn't my fault. Are there no honest people left in this world?
I'm truly disappointed with Whistler, I thought maybe Whistler Wendy would show up and help out, but nope!

I'm sorry that I was unable to show up and help out! I was out some of last week.
I have sent you a PM. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help at this time.

The Company I purchased from on ebay had me ship it back for an exchange. They never sent one back and today I requested a refund and got it. I'm done with whistler and will just stick with Uniden.

There are a number of people on this forum that could have told you how to fix that scanner .. myself included. Owners need to take some responsibility and realize that this is not the 1980's where it was no more difficult than 462.5750 enter.

These scanners (yes Uniden models too) have a learning curve .. it would be a very good idea before you get your scanner to research it, learn how to use it, learn the software and be sure you are capable of operating it. This forum is turning into a rant fest .. maybe people need to look at themselves before blaming just the most convenient one, usually the manufacturer.

I bought my first scanner in 1972 that used crystals, then we moved into push button programming and then finally computer programming. I have many folders full of edits since Don Starr's win95, I programmed dozens of pro96 & pro97's and all the different models in between. I prefer Dons programming better than ARC software, that doesn't mean I don't understand it. I KNOW what I'm doing.

The stuck "0" key on a new scanner is unacceptable, especially on a $500 scanner. If you want to pay that much and FIX it, go ahead. MY main complaint was about the lack of customer service. I had downloaded the programming for the TRX1 the day I ordered it, and had an edit for my area all ready to load on it when it arrived.

When I tried to load it and it wouldn't go past bandplan I reached out for help, here and at Whistler. The forum gave me ideas, although I had tried all of them before and it still wasn't working. One post mentioned a stuck button and when I realized the "0" button was truly stuck, I was done with it.
The Whistler people never called back and even when I wrote them a letter I got no reply then either.

I contacted the people I bought it from on ebay and started an exchange. The faulty scanner made it to them in 2 days, yet after another week of waiting, no new scanner. I tried contacting them and they only replied their system showed the transaction as complete and wouldn't reply to further emails. I finally opened a case with ebay and was refunded my purchase price and NOW the case is closed.

To edmscan - Would you really fix a stuck key on a BRAND NEW $500 scanner. Good for you. I ignore the rest of your comments because they don't apply. My "RANT" here was about crummy products and poor customer service.
Maybe you should have read the whole thread instead of assuming I was new to scanners and programming.

I did read the whole thread .. and I never said you were a newbie. But there is a huge difference from those crystal scanner days .. that is where I started too. But I will not get into it. You have to admit that you have to be part computer genius to make these things work sometimes .. and some are not there yet. The product is not crummy .. it is the user being unable to understand it. I cannot comment on the support as I have never called them.

Gadgetman...You did nothing wrong. It's a crappy product with even worse support. Buy an Uniden and you will never look back !

Stop buying expensive things on ebay! They hit sellers for so many fees now,so that pisses them off and the buyer gets to deal with someone who is pissed off from the start.Bravo ebay! Futhermore, ebay's customer service is next to non existant.
Buy from a scanner or ham radio place if you are going to buy a top notch scanner,so you dont get a broken button radio.
I got mine from HRO,I use it alot and the buttons are just fine.

How is it a crappy product?

1.Insert SD card into computer.
2.Make sure you have the WHISTLER software for your corresponding radio.Launch the Ezscan program!
3.EZscan is easy as pie.
4.Make sure you load the database to the SD card.
5.Insert SD card into scanner and see if it loads.
6.If it does, select USA and then select place
7 Enter your zipcode and select types of services you want to hear.
8.Scanner should work *JUST LIKE THE UNIDEN*.
9.I had a Uniden and a Whistler,they both "work".
To me they are both good companies............both good products.

Both use the same database, both wont work without the database on the scanner sd card!
Same thing to me.BCD-436HP and TRX 1 operate similar.

The TRX-1 has better sensitivity on 400mhz and air band,Period.
But both scanners work just fine.

Buy a Uniden .. that is why there are 4,281 support threads there, cause they are so great and so much better. Exactly.

There are the 2-3 on this forum that could not get their Whistler scanners to work .. yet that is the fault of the manufacturer. Exactly again.

I have nothing against either manufacturer and own models from both manufacturers .. but blame needs to be where it belongs, on the owner. There are plenty of people using Whistler scanners very successfully here, the product is hardly crappy.
