I feel your pain but not to be ignorant in my good judgement i buy from "The Ham Station" in Indiana, "Jeff" is fantastic and prices are competitive...He will work with you on anything....Good Luck
I sent the vendor off ebay a message about it, and he wants to charge me a 15% restocking fee if I don't take an exchange. 15% of $500 is $75 for something that wasn't my fault. Are there no honest people left in this world?
I'm truly disappointed with Whistler, I thought maybe Whistler Wendy would show up and help out, but nope!
To edmscan - Would you really fix a stuck key on a BRAND NEW $500 scanner. Good for you. I ignore the rest of your comments because they don't apply. My "RANT" here was about crummy products and poor customer service.
Maybe you should have read the whole thread instead of assuming I was new to scanners and programming.
I bought my first scanner in 1972 that used crystals, then we moved into push button programming and then finally computer programming. I have many folders full of edits since Don Starr's win95, I programmed dozens of pro96 & pro97's and all the different models in between. I prefer Dons programming better than ARC software, that doesn't mean I don't understand it. I KNOW what I'm doing.
The stuck "0" key on a new scanner is unacceptable, especially on a $500 scanner. If you want to pay that much and FIX it, go ahead. MY main complaint was about the lack of customer service. I had downloaded the programming for the TRX1 the day I ordered it, and had an edit for my area all ready to load on it when it arrived.
When I tried to load it and it wouldn't go past bandplan I reached out for help, here and at Whistler. The forum gave me ideas, although I had tried all of them before and it still wasn't working. One post mentioned a stuck button and when I realized the "0" button was truly stuck, I was done with it.
The Whistler people never called back and even when I wrote them a letter I got no reply then either.
I contacted the people I bought it from on ebay and started an exchange. The faulty scanner made it to them in 2 days, yet after another week of waiting, no new scanner. I tried contacting them and they only replied their system showed the transaction as complete and wouldn't reply to further emails. I finally opened a case with ebay and was refunded my purchase price and NOW the case is closed.

Gadgetman...You did nothing wrong. It's a crappy product with even worse support. Buy an Uniden and you will never look back !
