I had a Sony ICF-SW7600GR that I sold a couple years ago because I wasn't really getting much of anything in North America. Radio Havana and a few odd religious things was about it. I kind of miss having the radio but I found it kind of frustrating. I recall a radio shop person told me something about a lengthy sun cycle that affects things combined with less broadcasting.

Is anyone in North America pulling in much of anything these days? What are hobbyists listening to on world band radio?

If you want to sample what’s out there, give a WebSDR receiver a try! Pick a region, pick a band or freq and listen for a bit!

See these 2 threads - both the WoR and UDXF servers have had plenty of Russian traffic on them over the last couple of days

Those are great tools, but are many of those able to be picked up in the NE USA with consumer grade world band radio such as something from Eton or Sangean?

I listen to Florida and Cuba from Minnesota most of the time at night. Have picked up the orient in day light hours. I use a long wire. Allot depends on conditions and antennas.

Stick to the Euro sites. They will have the best chance of hearing something. We have links to many other online SDRs here..

Aside from the ongoing war, the "odd religious thing" is unfortunately rampant on every band 24/7. Unless you speak many languages or manage to listen at the proper time of day shortwave is not as interesting as it use to be.

Give early mornings a try.
4 AM to 7 or even 8 AM

Use some known Frequencies to see what Band is best. (Or just scan each SWBC band)

The time stations below is a good start to check propagation
3330 CHU
5000 WWV
7850 CHU
10,000 WWV
15,000 WWV
20,000 WWV

See message 3 of this thread. There have been numerous 4 and 5 Mhz frequencies identified in the last couple of days. For you to have a (rather slim) chance of hearing them, you need a darkness path between where you are and the Ukraine. Given the relatively low power of these transmitters, an external antenna of some kind is almost a necessity. This will be tough to hear on the East Coast, for sure....Mike

Greetings! I still have my Sony, and dug it out about a month ago to listen to again, including my Sangean long wire antenna. If my LED lights in my living room are turned off, you can still hear some transmissions, though it's mostly in a foreign language, or super religions. It's a fun radio to use, but I liked the tuning of my DX-390 that I gave away about 15 years ago much more.
