Hi guys. I was just thinking of going out to RS to buy the "20-289" interface cable, to use with my Pro-95. I'll download Win95, and use the cable, but was wondering, what are the advantages? I know its faster and easier to program your scanner.

Also, I'm not sure if the cable would be compatable with my computer. I wanted to make sure though before I drop $25 on it. What does the computer connection for the cable look like? I see it has 2 screws which is fine, but was curious as to the prongs for the connection and all that. The port I would ASSUME it goes into on my computer, has screws, has 5 male ends on top, 4 male ends on bottom and is shaped like a trapezoid for lack of a better word. I have a Compaq Presario 7596 running Windows 2000. Can anyone tell me what the connection on the cable is like and if it would be compatable?

I would GREATLY appriciate any help you guys can give me....

That 9 pin plug that you described is a serial port, which is exactly what you need for that cable.

Time spent programming reduced significantly.

Time spent reprogramming after you lost the data in your scanner is null as long as you save a file on your hard drive.

Save different setups, i.e. folders on you hard drive and copy them to the scanner when you travel to different areas.

Thanks for the help you guys!

Uncle, thanks for the photo! My port looks identical, just doesn't say "serial" but rather has two circles split by a line, and the whole thing braketed by a line on each side, so I was a bit confused for a bit. Thanks!!!

Also, what are some of the users or bands on this expanded range through Win95? I know Mil UHF, but was curious as to other, for example, on HF. Would just like as much info before I go through with the purchase.

once you program using win 95 you will never go back to manual programming except for on-the-spot corrections or additions.... you will find that you can tailor your scanner loads to specific listening criteris and rearrange your freqs til you have a fine tuned scaner load....
