The upgrade to both my radios did help but there are other factors working against you. My situation has been very good with simulcast reception, but others have had unsatisfactory results. I have a ham license, and the DMR part of the upgrade works well. Most of the posts on RR about the upgrade are positive as long as you don't expect the performance of a radio with a newer circuit design,

Here is the answer for anyone with simulcast systems that owns one of these Whistler/GRE scanners "YMMV".. No one knows if it will or will not work at YOUR location.

With the upgrade, definitely, because you still have added DMR.

But as @Wackyracer said if you want to listen to a simulcast system it is a gamble. Mine works good, but many others say they have problems ranging from minor to silence.

I did the upgrade from whistler when they first came out with the update. And today I decide to fireup the old radio been years I used it. There is a new p25 phase ll system and it doesn't do well with simulcast.

Update ezscan, then the cpu firmware, update the library and all your programming. Enable all sites until you find which ones the scanner receives best, you can do this by adding a wildcard to each of the talk groups and set it to record, then you can go look at the recordings in ezscan and see which sites it receives the most recordings, then lock out the rest.

Yep, there is lots of stuff to listen to besides P25 Simulcast. If you want good coverage of a simulcast system the only scanners that do that are the SDS200 & SDS100. All other scanners fall short when it comes to simulcast decoding.

I had the upgrade done to my PSR800 and PRO668, just to get DMR.
It did not improve Simulcast issue or sensitivity, but I didn't expect it to.
Both my PRO106 and PSR500 handle the local Phase I Simulcast system better than 800/668 or my TRX-1.
