Hi,

I have a question that, if answered, will help me figure out some cross-traffic issues (especially when in the Cntrl Chnnl only mode) when monitoring 800 MHz systems on my BC 296D.

Q:
Would two groups of radio users on DIFFERENT systems ever use the same talkgroup ID?

It seems to me they wouldnt (for example, if 14492 was the talkgroup ID for the ravenna highway patrol on MARCS, then no other system in the state (really I mean geographic region) would use that ID.)

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes. Talkgroup 14492 can be used by the OSP Ravenna Post on MARCS, while for example Canton PD could use 14492 on their system.

If you are putting two different system in one bank using CC mode, this is why you do not want to do that.
It will cause talkgroups to mix and you would not be able to tell (unless you have the dispatchers' voices down really well)
who is who on a talkgroup.

Why wouldn't they do that? They are completely separate systems and most administrators would not want to limit the flexability of a trunked radio system like that.

Contrary to your information listed above, on a 3600bps control channel, they are limited to 4096 talkgroups max (and some of those are reserved IIRC). On 9600bps systems, they are limited to somewhere around 65500 talkgroups. Your idea would be more feasable if all of the systems were 9600, but still will never happen.

If a talkgroup were only allowed to be used on one system, with a max of 4096, it wouldn't be long before all of them were used up. The only time this would make sense, would be where separate systems are expected to be merged at some point in the future.
