Hey all, i`m looking at moving away from the USAD (Uniden`s programming software) to one of the titles i`ve seen mentioned on here (can`t recall what the titles are right off, sorry.), and i would really appreicate some advice on which one to get, questions here. One, how much will the sortware cost, and where do i download it, and second, as i have a vision defect (minor, but it does make some print somewhat difficult to see on a computer screen sometimes), which title would be best for my sittuation? Thanx for any advice and/or recomendations. N9NRA

You didn't mention what scanner, so I'm gunna guess, check these 2 sites out for software, they are both free:

advice on software

hey there, sorry i wasn`t a bit more speciffic, i have the BCD396T, and i`m growing kinda tired of the USAD software, and since it appears Uniden isn`t gonna update it anytime soon (they should, they could really have a great software package if they would just UPDATE), i`m looking to find me some new software that`ll do a bit more. defiantly check out http://www.bctool.org/
there is at least one other person on that group site using it with an Eye issue.
You have to sign up for there email list to get in on all the talk about it and if you want to get in contact with the other person who has to relay on a screen reading software.
The Software is free and the one person who made it is very open for improvement concern or wish lists.
If you like it it's suggested to donate whatever you can afford.

We have the user manual for FreeScan posted in our wiki here;

http://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/FreeScan_User_Guide

Although I agree, I think BCTool is slightly better. It doesn't clutter up the screens with options that may or may not apply to the 396 the way FreeScan does. Note that if there are multiple images on the article, simply click on it to expand.

Anyway, you might also look at ProScan

http://www.proscan.org/

On my laptop, at least, the typeface or font on the screenshots seems to be somewhat larger than what other software uses, so that might aid with your vision issues. Bob has a dedicated forum for that software on his website; you might ask about changing fonts and so forth to make it easier to read.

If you look at the website where you downloaded FreeScan, there's a tab at the top for the forums...

By the way our wiki now holds the User manual for FreeScan here.... (note that anything in blue or underlined - both here and on the wiki - is a link. If an article has multiple images on it in thumbnail, simply click on the image to expand it)
